Looking for summer groups for a special kiddo that needs skilled support? SOCIAL-MOTOR-LITERACY-SELF REGULATION! Also: bike riding instruction with our 10 step method: no parent running or falls involved :)!
Tomorrow is Ride Your Bike to School Day!
In honor of this day, we'd like to share information about our very special Easy Rider program.
22 years ago, our very own Kristen Masci developed this 10-step method to teach children to learn to ride a bicycle (no training wheels 🙂 ). This method allows children to feel confident and in control by gradually mastering steps that lead to independent riding.
Tip for families supporting children learning this skill:
Remove the pedals, lower the seat down so that the child can sit with feet flat and knees slightly bent, and master coasting first. Once your child can glide, balance, and lift feet up for longer distances, the rest may fall into place shortly thereafter.
If you need help or do not want to be the teacher for your child, our team members are skilled in coaching children through the sequence of steps and providing tips for at home practice to solidify skills.

Each session is comprised of five 90-minute group meetings occurring once a week. Please see above for dates of the two different summer session options. Our offices are located relatively close to one another and easily accessible to Northern Virginia and Washington DC families.
How To Register?
Prior to registration, our summer program coordinator, Jennifer Robbins ([email protected]), will schedule an exploratory phone or video call with you so that we can ensure our summer group program is a mutual best fit for your child and family.
Once you have completed this brief screening, a sign-up link will be provided to register and pay for the program.

On April 25, SOTH hosted Carl Roberts, Senior Legislative Assistant to Representative DeSaulnier from California. Kristen and Jen gave Carl a tour of our DC clinic and he got to participate in a handful of therapeutic activities that our patients do in order to better understand what occupational therapy is. Carl was accompanied by Abe Saffer, lobbyist for American Occupational Therapy Association - AOTA. Abe got to have his writing skills analyzed and was relieved to learn his pencil grasp is dynamic and functional!
