Several studies have shown that programs focusing on improving neuromuscular control, strength and balance in young athletes can reduce ACL injury rates by up to 88%.
Armonk Physical Therapy & Sports Training employs a comprehensive battery of tests to determine an athlete’s injury risk profile. Using these findings, we can tailor a specific training program for each individual athlete’s needs to help reduce their risk of injury. Better yet, aspects of these training programs have also been shown to improve performance!
If you are interested in learning more about the Injury Risk Assessment and would like to schedule, please reach out to our office at any time.

Here are a few devices that we have mentioned that can help in perfecting your desk setup.
1. Desk extension for keyboard and mouse.
2. Wireless keyboard and mouse.
3. Computer stand (for desktop or laptop).
4. Easel to prop up notes or books.
5. Standing desk.
All of these devices can be very affordable and can help you stay out of pain when you are spending hours at your desk.
To follow up from our last post we will mention a few tips to set up your desk to allow for proper sitting posture. ▪️First you want to find a comfortable chair that allows you to sit properly, as described in our last post. ▪️Next you should consider your desk height. Ideally you are able to rest your hands just a few inches above your thighs. This can be done by adjusting your arm rest, adjusting your seat height, or even installing a small drawer below your desk. A wireless keyboard and mouse can make a huge difference here. ▪️Then you want to consider the height of your screen, which should be at eye level when in proper position. You can do this by stacking a few books, or buying an adjustable computer stand. If you are reading notes or a book you can use an easel so it is more vertical rather than flat on the table. You can also elevate this so it is at eye level. ▪️All of these adjustments allow for proper sitting posture and decreased discomfort when sitting. See our next post for a few of the devices mentioned here to perfect your desk setup.
Sitting posture is important to be aware of since poor posture can cause aches and pains to various parts of the body. Here are a few things to consider the next time you are sitting: ▪️Be in a chair so your feet are flat on the floor, with hips and knees both at 90 degree angles. If your chair isn’t adjustable you may need to place a book or piece of wood on the floor to bring the floor up to you.▪️Next rotate your hips forward so you are sitting up straight with your head/shoulders/hips stacked on top of eachother. ▪️From here scooch back so your hips are tucked into the corner of the chair for more support. You may find it useful to put a small lumbar roll in the curve of your lower back so you can maintain this posture comfortably without muscles working the whole time. ▪️If you are using a keyboard you would want your elbows resting by your side and bent to a 90 degree angle. This is all made easier with the proper desk setup, which we will cover in our next post.

Sitting has become more and more frequent in our lives, especially over the past year. Add increased stress from the pandemic and this is a recipe for “pandemic neck”, which can lead to stiffness and discomfort in the neck, shoulder, upper/lower back, and hips. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing tips related to your posture, desk setup, and mobility exercises that you can do to help reduce this. To start, we often suggest that you set a timer for every hour as a reminder to stand up and get away from your desk for a few minutes. You can stand, walk around the house, go up and down the stairs a few times... really anything that feels good! Taking a few movement breaks throughout the day can help prevent that stiffness from building up; and it might even help you be more productive. Stay tuned for more advice on this!
When the pandemic began we made a quick transition to provide all of our services through telehealth. Although we are open and seeing patients in our office, we are still offering online appointments for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Personal Training, and Pilates. We want to continue to provide this option so our patients can feel safe and continue to get the care that they need. If you are interested in this option please call (914)-273-0800 or email [email protected] for more information!
