Summer is here. We made it! ☀️

Summer is the most Yang time of the year - which means we are at the peak of your most outward, connected, inspired energy of being.

It is activation.
It is power.
It is connection.

With summer and the season of the heart comes the JOY! The heart is the king (queen) of consciousness, of all of our emotions. It houses our SHEN. Our presence. Our embodiment of inspired action. It wants love, happiness, joy, connection, intimacy.

The warning is that Fire is erratic + upwards in motion + hard to control. So there’s comes the need for counter BALANCE via WATER - both physically + emotionally. Being in + near water is important to balance the fire energies. As well consuming water, + cooling foods like watermelon + cucumber.

So go frolic in nature, swim in the lakes and oceans! Go for a hard hike and make your heart pump and circulate blood.

Did you know Walnuts are part of the Materia Medica in Chinese Medicine?⁣

What do you see when you look at a walnut? ⁣

A Brain? Me too.⁣

Lungs? Me too.⁣

And guess what? It benefits the brain, the lung and helps in so many ways you may have never known.⁣

Let’s get to know the Walnut according to Chinese Medicine. ⁣

Known as Hu Tao Ren in Chinese, you will find this nut in the category of herbs that “tonify the yang” and they are warm in nature, sweet in flavor, benefiting the Kidney, Lung and Large Intestine channels. When something is warm in nature it can help with circulation, as well as balancing out areas that may have been exposed to too much cold (ex: digestion, aging, lungs).⁣

Actions:⁣

Tonitfies Kidney Yang: this can present with a cold sensation in lower back with pain, relieved with warmth, weakness in the spine and knees, frequent urination, tinnitus and sexual dysfunction (libido + fertility).⁣

Assists the Kidney Qi to grasp the Qi of the lungs while warming + astringent to the lungs - help with asthma and chronic wheezing and coughing, as well as some skin conditions (ex. eczema, psoriasis) which are associated with the lungs in Chinese Medicine. Think of a weak cough that gets worse with exercise or movement. ⁣

🌸🌷🌱Spring comes with a surge of yang and liver energy which is a welcome change from the winter’s internal and slow rhythm. Just like flowers that take their time to bloom, so should you. ⁣


The Liver in TCM is in charge of the tendon + ligaments. They are avascular so they dont have their own blood supply, making injuries and tendonitis aliments annoying, common and hard to recover from. ⁣


So what should you do? ⁣


Start slooow + warm up that winter body.⁣
Take.Your. Time⁣
Value the progression.⁣
Really honor stretching. ⁣
Have realistic expectations - you can’t run a marathon, if you haven’t ran one mile in the winter. ⁣

According to Chinese Medicine, Springtime is the season of the liver. The liver in Chinese medicine is known as “the general”. It likes order and flow. Its ruling emotion is anger. 𝘈𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 - 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦. Anger over time can cause stress, disease, depression, bodily pain and when that energy gets stuck you can notice yourself 😔 sighing - as a way to move this stagnation. ⁣

Demand the same compassionate conscious action from yourself as you awaken into spring. ⁣

Go slow and pay attention.

This is where we see injuries related to doing too many things as once - hello walking + scrolling and oops you roll your ankle.

Or injuries due to overdoing it right out of the gate - running 5 miles, when you have only been walking this winter, and you wake up with shin splints, or a lower back/hip pull.

So pay attention, be here now, and warm up your body with mindful stretching before/after a good cardio session.

Give yourself extra time to take care of your body, mind and spirit. Factor in rest and restore days using acupuncture, yoga, qi gong, hoth baths, saunas and other mindful and nourishing activities that help support your body’s energies and as well as focus on flexibility, blood flow and tendon/ligament health.

Have you ever been told your stomach hurting is “all in your head”? ⁣


Or that you have an upset stomach and it’s because you’re anxious or stressed? ⁣


⁣Stress can wreak havoc on your gut, causing constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, and even disrupt your sleep! ⁣ ⁣


Why? It’s all about the “gut-brain axis.” When stressed, your body releases hormones that mess with digestion and sleep patterns. ⁣


Here’s some small ways to take control of your stress:⁣


✨ Take breathing breaks during the day - Take 5 slow, deep breaths before bed to activate your relaxation response and calm your gut.⁣


✨ Move your body: Exercise helps reduce stress hormones and keeps your digestive system moving smoothly. But avoid strenuous workouts close to bedtime.⁣


✨Eat gut-friendly foods including lots of Fiber, Whole Foods - veggies, fruits, proteins, fats. Less processed foods and sugars (obviously this is a big generalization - figuring out foods work exactly for your body is the best way to go!)⁣


✨ Wind down before bed: Create a relaxing bedtime routine with calming activities like reading or taking a warm bath.⁣


Remember, a happy gut is a key to overall well-being, including restful sleep! ⁣

Winter comes from the old Germanic word that means “time of water”. In Chinese medicine it is associated with the Kidney energy which is associated with water element + water metabolism in our body.

It is most Yin time of the year. Meaning less outward action + more quiet deeper, darker, slower movements.

Encountering more of your darkness than your light. Which is vital + necessary.
You can’t have yin without Yang.
You can’t have light without darkness.
We are all mirrors and interconnected.

In winter the action of the season is is all happening beneath the ground. The seeds of your thoughts + intention rooting in the cold dark soil. ⁣⁣

A return within.
Deeply rooted.
Quiet + still.

DEAR COMMUNITY,
Uncharted times call for new ways of figuring things out. The state of the world is chaotic and scary and overwhelming. We consciously made decisions over the past month to be quieter on IG except for charitable causes and need-to-know information. Our nervous systems are all on edge as we continue to digest the news and state of the world. It is a lot. And it will continue to be a lot as the future remains unknown. That being said, as a wellness space, we want to continue to support you. To share, educate, inspire, and remind our community to take care of themselves, always.

We are here for you. If you don't know what to do, where to start, or need a chat we are available to help guide you to the best resources, practitioners, and places we know in this community. Please reach out to us. We’ve got you.

As November has arrived, it is a month associated with giving thanks and gratitude. So that is what we will focus on. We hope our little reminders throughout the month help you to refocus, reconnect, reboot, and re-calibrate.

And what else can we all do right now?

Lead with love and compassion in your home, friends, community, and the greater world. Speak up, say your truth, and remain aware.

If you are feeling out of sorts (like we are) return to what you know. Return to the simple things. Eat well. Sleep well. Move every day. Repeat.
