There is so much “Super Kicks” happening in this picture from graduation yesterday…
The young man being assisted started when he was 6 years old, and has been training now for over 5 years. He’s a 2nd degree black belt—strong, talented, dedicated—and earned another midterm yesterday, testing towards his 3rd degree.
So many of our students at Super Kicks earn their 1st degree of black belt and decide, “This is not the end. This is the beginning.” They continue to learn and train well after black belt. They recognize there’s so much more to learn.
The instructor on his knee assisting the young man started when he was around 10 years old. He earned his black belt, continued to learn and train, and as a teenager, began working for us. (We hire lots of our students when they turn 14 years old.)
He learned how to assist in classes, recruit at marketing events, coach students one on one, and lead and develop new team members coming on board. Now he’s a full time staff member, serving our school beautifully. He’s actively pursuing his 4th degree black belt.
Like I said… there’s a lot of Super Kicks happening in this picture. ❤️
I’m really proud of these two. And, to those of our students who were promoted to their next rank or level yesterday, congratulations! I’m incredibly proud of you!
Keep moving towards your next degree of black belt! See you in class this week!

What do they DO all day?!
Secret, ninja magic.. 🥷
Master Holeman, clearly the winner! 🥇 🔥
Look at the confidence and pride on this young man’s face!! 🤩 He has mastered the art of CONSISTENCY! 5 months of chores at home has earned him a gold medal! 🔥
Check out this father/son team! 🤩 Strength runs in the family!
SILVER STAR ALERT! 🔔 Report cards out tomorrow!
It's important to us that students are learning how to have a black belt attitude here at Super Kicks, AND demonstrating that same effort in school!
When your student gets their report card tomorrow, bring it in and let us recognize their hard work in front of the class with a SILVER STAR for their uniform! It goes in the same place as their gold stars for chores.
"But Master Alley...What if my kid didn't get good grades?"
So glad you asked!
We do what my instructor did with me one grading period that I didn't do so well...
He coached me, encouraged me, and showed me he cared. And then he held me accountable and said he'd check in next grading cycle.
I did better that time...😅
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child's life, and encourage them in more ways than just karate.
Have a great rest of your day! Bring in those report cards!
So many awesome things in this picture!
🔥 Their original goal sheet to black belt. (We set a student’s goal early on in their training!)
🔥 Chore sheet trophies! (Every day, 7 chores. Every month of that, a gold star. 10 months later, a trophy. 20 months later, a BIGGER trophy!)
🔥 Belts on the wall on display as you make the journey to black belt!
🔥 THE BLACK BELT CERTIFICATE!!! They did it!!
The attendance card of a new student from years ago…
Best. Day. Ever. 😅
Using the screens to teach the curriculum has been so valuable for us. We get to have an extra instructor on the floor helping students, instead of being stuck up front. Plus, everyone can see 🤗
10 years ago, this was our karate school! (1400 square feet)
Grateful that we had a place to teach… and grateful that we have a BIGGER place to teach now! 😅 (current location, 6500 square feet!
“I would not be a true friend to you, as a business owner and leader, if I failed to list the negative parts of my experience today along with my positive experiences. So here goes:
POSITIVE Parts of my experience this morning: I never once felt lost or awkward or confused. From the time I walked in to the time I left, I wasn't lost or confused and I didn't feel awkward. I felt welcomed, guided, and instructed.
Instructor Gelles (I hope I'm using their names and titles properly) Immediately welcomed me and told me what to expect. She walked me through the first steps and made sure I knew what was going on.
I was passed to Instructor Mongelli, but didn't feel passed. It was just normal. She was there, and she led me through the next steps including tying my belt for me and showing me how to do it.
Throughout the class, I was WAY out of my comfort zone, but I never felt embarrassed or hindered from doing what I was instructed to do. I felt physically pushed, but not to the point of it being impossible.
And I felt like I learned what I was able to learn.
The teaching was great. And the way the instructors were there to work with us, was awesome.
Instructor Gomez was thorough and great at following up on the lesson. Master Holeman was super encouraging and took an active interest with everyone.
Instructor Mongelli ended my journey for the morning and did a great job of it. She anticipated what I was going to ask, and answered it before I even asked a question. She covered things so well.
I left wanting to come back.
Now to the negatives. Sir, I cannot think of one. And I could not find one. I really could not. I almost wish I could have, I guess, so I don't seem like a liar when I say that my visit today was entirely positive from beginning to end.
I am excited to continue! THANK YOU for allowing me to be a part of this.”
Thank you Mr. Queen, for this beautiful review of your first introductory lesson with us. We are all excited for many, many more classes, helping you achieve your goal! ❤️
This week, we taught our Little Leaders class (5 years old and under) differently, and I couldn’t be more pleased.
Since forever ago, we have taken the curriculum that they are responsible to learn, and taught ALL of it—every class. So for 8 weeks, it was the EXACT. SAME. CLASS.
My thought process was, they are young, and I want them to get it.
The NEW way we are teaching the class is exactly how we teach the regular beginner class:
Week 1: Lower body technique
Week 2: Upper body technique
Week 3: Grab technique
Week 4: Lower body technique
Week 5: Upper body technique
Week 6: Grab technique
Week 7: Review everything.
Week 8: Test everything.
This way, they still get the repetition, but they get more variety. It will also give us the ability to take the technique we are working on in class and do more drills, and train it in different ways. It’s going to be a lot more fun. 🤩 I’m confident they will learn even better.
The feedback we received, just on week 1 alone, has been tremendous.
My belief/goal/hope/ambition is that students (and parents 😅) will enjoy the variety of the classes, and will look forward to training even more.
(Btw, these two Little Leaders just earned their TWENTIETH gold star, and earned these trophies! Little Leaders, learning to be leaders at home! ❤️)
Congrats to the Kessler family! 🔥 They started taking classes before Covid. Then, had to pause. BUT! They got back to class, got back to work, and finished their goal of BLACK BELT! 🥋It was a long journey, but they completed it!
Now, they have continued their training and are working towards the next degree of black belt. Super proud of these guys! Way to pursue your goals! 🤩
SO proud of this young man! He’s been in the Little Leader class for about 17 years now 😜, and he finally jumped into the next level up class—unassisted by a parent, training on his own.
And he absolutely CRUSHED it!! 🔥 Judging by his face, I think he knows he did a good job!
That’s not a speck of black on his uniform. It’s a BLACK STAR! 🖤
Every 12 classes that a black belt assists in as a “Black Belt Buddy” earns a black star. It’s a great way for color belts to receive extra help and build relationships with our black belts.
AND! It’s an amazing way for black belts to learn how to teach, coach, as stay fresh and sharp on the material that got them where they are.
Congrats Mr. Runyon! 🔥
As you earn each belt, we always encourage families to take pictures along the way. That way, when you earn your black belt, you can create a collage like this! 🤩🔥‼️
Solid list. 🔥
I hope you’re excited and ready for our PILLOW FIGHT!!! 🤩🔥 Starts at 3:30pm!
Journaling this morning, I couldn’t help but feel enormous gratitude. It’s the last day of the year for Super Kicks…
I have such an amazing team. We all enjoy each other, we get along, and everyone works hard to create a beautiful experience for our students. Thank you to my team, for your hard work, energy, and care for what we do.
I’m so grateful for you, our students. Thank you for training hard, setting goals with us, and allowing Super Kicks to be part of your family.
Thank you to Ashburn for accepting Super Kicks as a brand in the community 11 years ago. I’m incredibly grateful that we can serve, and be a small voice of influence here. I have always felt welcomed by this community. It’s been the highlight of my career.
You can “start fresh” and set new goals anytime, but the new year always feels special to me. It’s my favorite holiday. Cheers to the new year! Wishing you all a prosperous, happy, healthy, and beautiful 2024!

One of the things that made a huge difference in my life was my instructor, checking my report card as a kid.
I knew that my mom and dad cared about my grades, but I REALLY didn't want to disappoint my instructor.
One grading period in 4th grade, I received a D in history. This was the worst grade I had ever earned, and I was terrified to bring my report card to the karate school.
Very calmly, he asked what I did differently, and asked me what I thought I could do to improve. I listed off a handful of ideas. He approved.
No yelling. No disappointment. Just coaching. And accountability.
I left our short little meeting, resolved that I could certainly do better. After all, they were MY ideas about what I could do differently.
6 weeks later, I brought my D up to a B, and I had never been more proud to show my instructor.
Fast forward 25 years.
This is the same approach we have with our students now. Honor roll report card? Silver star for your uniform. Not so good grades? Quick, easy coaching, accountability, and compassion as we help the student map our a game plan that gets grades back on course.
So, this grading period, bring in your report cards. Let the instructors at Super Kicks be part of the coaching and accountability for your kids.
It’s always fun coaching a kid, who gets to spar his mom! These two were having WAY too much fun! 🤩
Phew! Look at these warriors after a super intense sparring session at Super Kicks! 🔥 Every drop of sweat is a testament to their hard work and dedication!
Teaching kids to view failure as a learning opportunity is crucial. It's not about falling down; it's about getting back up with more wisdom and determination. Every time they stumble in their karate practice and rise again, they're not just learning a new move; they're building resilience and the courage to tackle life's challenges. 🥋
Ever received a “good job note” from one of the instructors? It’s one of our favorite things to do! 🤗
Every day, our team spends time writing messages of encouragement to our students. Who has ever received a card from Instructor Wixom?! 🤩
As the holiday season approaches, we're excited to announce our "Clothes Drive" for the entire month of December! It's a time to declutter, give back, and spread warmth in our community.
Why participate?

Declutter for a Cause: This is your chance to clear out gently used clothes that no longer fit or are needed, making room for the new year.
Community Impact: Every piece of clothing you donate can make a big difference in someone's life.
Family Bonding: Participating as a family can create lasting memories and instill values of community service.
How to participate:
Simply bring your bags of good-to-new clothes to Super Kicks Karate any day in December that we are open! We are accepting donations from both members and non-members, so feel free to spread the word!

“There’s no crying in baseball!”
Every so often, we give the class an EXTRA round, and inevitably, we get moans and sighs and groans from kids 😂
It’s normal. I do it too. I’m taking a class, working out, and the instructor gives MORE than you’re used to… you mumble under your breath.
You do it too, don’tcha? 🤪
It always makes me think of the line from A League of Their Own. “There’s no crying in baseball!”
And there’s no sighing in karate.
It gives the instructors an easy place to pause, and remind the class: embrace the tough stuff.
It’s good for you physically, but it’s even better for you emotionally.
Sometimes, life throws us curve balls. Things get extra hard. How we respond is what makes or breaks us.
Do we fold, or do we accept the challenge?
Emotional toughness—grit—it’s what gets you to black belt. It’s also what helps you succeed in life.
