For the past several months, I’ve immersed myself in breath practices and training to truly understand how breath works. With so many different ways to manipulate the breath, you may wonder—is one better than another?

What I’ve learned is that it depends on you and your goals. Is your breath serving you in your daily life?

Training your breath is much like navigating the ocean—unpredictable and ever-changing. But there’s also science and wisdom from those who’ve come before us to guide the way.

In 2021, I faced a heart challenge brought on by stress and inactivity, and instead of medication, I chose to trust my breath. Through my 30 years of Pranayama training and Ayurvedic breath techniques, I found stability—and deeper understanding.

The breath can restore balance to your nervous system, bringing increased clarity, emotional stability, and physical resilience. It’s about entering into a relationship with the mystery of your breath. 🌬️✨

Stay tuned for my new Free introductory video series on breath, coming soon to help you tap into this profound practice.

"In a yoga practice, observing and sensing are critical for developing awareness and discernment so you can respond wisely to the needs of your body. The alignment principles are also necessary as they provide a framework for understanding the sensations of the body as part of self-study and to help us gain mental clarity for informed action.”

🌿 Practice of the Week: Breath for Parasympathetic Balance 🌿

Your breath is a powerful tool for regulating your nervous system, yet it's often overlooked or taken for granted. When we're on autopilot, our breathing may not serve us as well as it could.

This week, I invite you to explore a simple yet profound technique to help you find stillness and relaxation—before diving into more structured breath exercises.

🧘‍♀️ How to Practice:

1. Grab a straw and begin to notice your breathing pattern.
2. Focus on lengthening your exhale to a count of 7, while inhaling for a count of 4.
3. Allow yourself to settle into the rhythm, feeling the calming effect on your parasympathetic system.

Finding balance in your breath can lead to deeper relaxation and a greater sense of peace. 🌬️✨

🌟 Yoga Tip of the Week 🌟

In my 40+ years of teaching, I've learned that one of the most profound practices in yoga is simply listening to your body.

When we approach our practice with patience and curiosity, we create space for true healing and transformation. Remember, yoga is not about forcing your body into poses but about understanding and respecting its boundaries while gradually expanding them.

Whether you’re dealing with back pain, recovering from an injury, or simply wanting to deepen your practice, trust in your body’s innate wisdom and take it one mindful breath at a time.

Your practice is a journey, not a destination. The key is consistency, compassion, and honoring where you are each day.

Wishing you a vibrant, authentic practice.

Namaste,
Lillah

✨ Fascia, Chakras & Energy ✨

Dive into the fascinating connection between fascia and our emotional body. Recent research reveals that motor neurons are located in the fascia, not muscle cells, meaning they respond instantly to emotional stimulation.

🌟 Discover the Healing Power of Personalized Yoga 🌟

Whether you're recovering from surgery, dealing with chronic pain, or simply seeking to deepen your practice, my private yoga sessions are tailored to meet your unique needs. Available both in-person and online, these sessions provide the focused attention and customized guidance necessary for profound healing and growth.

Here's what Michael Winner had to say about his experience:

"4 months post hip replacement surgery, some of the flexibility I had regained was diminishing and I was experiencing stiffness and soreness. In one session, Lillah identified the source of the problem and gave me poses & stretches to do every day. It has been less than a week and I feel improvement after each session. Lillah’s understanding of what is causing the discomfort and more importantly, how to fix it exceed that of the medical and PT practitioners I’ve been going to. She is amazing!"

Don't let pain or stiffness hold you back. Embrace the personalized approach to yoga and feel the difference it can make in your life.

Practice of the Week: Pulsing Pigeon Legs Only 🧘‍♀️

As we journey through yoga beyond 50, it’s important to be mindful of how our hip joints have changed over time. This week, let’s focus on a mindful approach to the popular hip stretch: Pulsing Pigeon Legs Only.

✨ Why This Practice?
Pulsing Pigeon helps to invite more fluid movement safely into your hips. By bringing your mind to attend to the sensations through your pelvis, you can compare sides and feel the difference.

Important Tips:

• Mindful Movement: Focus on the sensations in your hips and pelvis.
• Avoid Bending Forward: To prevent overstretching the piriformis muscle and causing pelvic instability, keep your torso upright.

Try this gentle approach to pigeon pose and feel the benefits of mindful, fluid movement. Share your experience with me in the comments below!

🧘‍♀️ Yoga Tip of the Day: Deepen Your Practice with Breath Awareness 🧘‍♂️

Breath is the foundation of a mindful yoga practice. Here's a simple tip to help you stay present and deepen your poses:

Focus on Your Exhalation:
When you exhale, imagine you are releasing tension from your body. This not only helps in relaxing your muscles but also enhances your flexibility and balance.

Try This:

1. Inhale deeply through your nose, filling your lungs completely.
2. Exhale slowly and completely, letting go of any tightness or stress.
3. Match your movements to your breath. For instance, in a pose like Cow Face Pose (Gomukhasana), inhale as you lengthen your spine, and exhale as you deepen into the stretch.
4. Focus on the sensation of your breath moving in and out.

Using your breath to guide your practice can make a significant difference in your yoga journey. Give it a try in your next session!

🌟 Yoga Challenges 🌟

Cow Face Pose (Gomukhasana) with an arm variation is a fantastic way to open up your shoulders, stretch your hips, and find balance. Some yoga poses may seem challenging, but they are also the ones that offer the most reward and transformation.

Today's challenge: Embrace the stretch, breathe deeply, and find your center in Cow Face Pose. Remember, yoga is not about perfection but about the practice and the progress you make.

What yoga pose challenges you the most? Share your experiences and let's inspire each other! 🧘‍♀️✨

🌬️ Explore the Power of Breath for Calm & Clarity 🌬️

Are you a shallow breather? If you often find tension in your neck and shoulders, it might be a sign that your breathing is restricted to your chest, missing out on the benefits of full, diaphragmatic breaths.

🌀 Understanding the Vagus Nerve: This crucial nerve affects everything from your heart rate to your emotional stability. By learning to regulate your breath, you can calm the vagus nerve's fight or flight response, easing anxiety and reducing stress.

🌟 The Magic of Functional Breathing: Shift from chest to diaphragmatic breathing to improve heart rate variability and your overall health. Try this simple exercise: Imagine your diaphragm expanding like a jellyfish—inhale to expand evenly, and exhale to contract, promoting a natural, calming effect on your nervous system.

⏳ Spend a few minutes each day practicing this technique to witness significant changes in your anxiety levels and physical comfort.
