Let us turn your furniture into art- whether it's restoring a finish on a treasured heirloom or rev I grew up watching my parents refinish and paint furniture.
When I got out on my own, I just thought it was what one does. Over the years, my husband and I have decorated our home with furniture that we have refinished or painted. My husband, Buddy calls me the Furniture Whisperer because I say that I let the furniture tell me what to do. Buddy owned and operated a Drapery Workroom in Huntsville. His work can be seen in some of the nicest homes in Nashvill
We are delighted to have our work in another beautiful home! Our client knows how to use antique and vintage furniture in a fresh, contemporary way. She realized that a pickled finish was exactly what her vintage mahogany drum table needed.
If at first you don't succeed- strip that baby and start over! This old weathered table was restored. Twice. In honor of its age ( and miles), we wanted a salvaged, bleached out look. We cleaned, stripped, sanded, and finished with a clear, water based top coat. But something wasn't quite right. So we stripped and sanded it again and finished with a warm tung oil finish. The results were better than we hoped for. This rustic table is the perfect balance in our client's contemporary home.
After being stripped and one application of bleach.
I scored this gorgeous square table and started its restoration. It had the beautiful weathered look I was looking for and just look at those legs! (You know I have a thing for legs). The nice, warm weather has been perfect for furniture stripping! Stay tuned.
Disclaimer: I did not paint the scenes on this piece.
I just want to wish everyone a very HAPPY NEW YEAR! We have a lot of exciting projects planned for 2022! I wanted to share the latest mural from Honey Blood in downtown Huntsville.
I love juxtaposing vintage furniture with modern appliances. This Merchant's Desk makes an ideal kitchen island. Perfect for a new construction or established home. 59x26x34. $285.00.
Has there ever been a more gorgeous piece of furniture than a wrap bed? I've always wanted one. This one is 100 years old. It was in pretty rough shape when it came to us. We made the necessary repairs and painted it a soft sand color. I think it will be enjoyed for another 100 years.
Progress. I honestly have nothing to do with this project besides assisting the artist, but I'm having fun!
I've been having so much fun this week assisting Honeyblood with a mural in Courtland AL. If you've never been, you should! The mayor and every resident I've met describes it as "quaint ". They are having a vintage car show this Saturday and expect at least 150 cars to be shown. (I don't know where they will park them all) I hope to see you Saturday.
We fell in love with this piece when we bought it a few years ago. It got pushed further and further back into the shop because of other projects. It is the same style, although not exactly the same pattern as the vanity so it was the perfect companion piece. Next is the gorgeous wrap-around bed.
Can you believe this gorgeous vanity was about to be put on a curb!? My dear friend called and asked if I wanted it and even delivered it to me! We made necessary repairs- including fabricating missing trim - and painted it for our daughter's new home. She chose the soft, sand color Dixie Belle Paint Company from our dear friend at Hinge .
Another updated bedroom in my favorite place on Earth- the river camp. We displayed a hat collection I started in the 70's and chose art that mimics the beautiful swamp grasses that grow along the riverbank. We just thought the fish were cute. Hopefully we can add to that collection.
I really wish you could see Vicki's whole apartment! She knows how to use bright colors and keep things calm with white.
We made a quick trip to Nashville today to deliver a china cabinet to a sweet friend we met a year ago. We first met Vicki when she downsized to a retirement apartment in Nashville's beautiful Greenhills district. We had a drop-leaf table that was perfect for her space and aesthetic. Today we delivered a china/curio cabinet to display her interesting collections. She has a phenomenal sense of style! I can't wait to see it decorated. I'll share pictures. (Pardon the poor quality of the photo. The room was filled with natural light, but my phone couldn't capture it.)
We've been sprucing up the river camp. We found these two cute side tables, painted them a fresh, soft white, then added the lamps and windows shades. So inviting! The vintage poster is from my granddaddy's store- many years ago. The egret painting captures an image we often see from our porch. It is my favorite place.
So...I painted a fish today. I used colored waxes over paint. The nuances and ombre aren't captured in the photo, but I'm satisfied.
I love the patina of old brass on light fixtures and candle sticks, but we wanted these vintage brass batwing drawer pulls to sparkle! They are going to compliment the freshly painted chest of drawers!
We enjoyed updating this vintage smoking stand. We wanted to honor its age by giving it a soft patina. We actually used three colors of paint along with clear and black wax.
The only way to get true hand-rubbed beauty is to literally spend hours hand applying hardening oils and buffing with fine steel wool between coats. I lost count, but I applied approximately eight skim coats of tung oil on this gorgeous vintage bench. It belonged to my friend's mother and it was in her life from her earliest memories.
As promised, the stunning modern art in our friends' dining room. I wish you could see their whole house!
Our friends' house flows with shades of blue. We delivered this sumptuous table and six chairs this weekend. It carries the cool, sophisticated spirit into the dining room and perfectly compliments their modern art. I'll try to post a picture of the artwork later.
This was written by my eldest. If you enjoy, please share! Thank you!
It All Began With a Dozen Pairs of Scissors. Or, How Multiple Scissors Sparked Multi-Creativity.
We upholstered this faux leather headboard for a young man's first apartment. His furry roommate seems to enjoy it.
Today we were able to see the beautiful home office of a sweet friend who commissioned us to paint her furniture. A few words come to mind. Crisp. Refreshing. And oh so chic! (More photos in comments. )
We were so happy to see the chairs we pickled after they were upholstered!
Finished the chairs. The table is going to be GORGEOUS!
Y'all know that I am a geek for chairs and I think these are the most beautiful dining chairs I've ever seen. We bought four a couple of years ago to compliment an antique table. When found six along with the barrel pedestal table it was Score and GAME! I prepped and primed them today. They are going in the beautiful home of a friend who is not afraid of color!

We decided in the summer of 2016 to turn our passion into a business. Montclair Designs is the creative expression of this husband and wife team.
Let us turn your furniture into art - whether it's restoring an original finish or reviving an old favorite for a fresh, new look. You can also browse our curated collection. We select the most interesting pieces, and carefully inspect for structural damage. Repairs are made as needed. Each piece is thoroughly cleaned -inside and out. Then we sand or strip. Two coats of primer are applied and sanded for the smoothest finish possible. Now, we let the furniture speak. We finish each piece in the way that best reflects it's style and history.
We offer personal shopping to help you find the perfect piece, then finish in a technique that reflects your unique style.
Montclair Designs is the fun place to shop for the most uncommon home furnishings.
