Hello, Facebook friends of HAVAR!
We are in need of a few items at our Building Bridges Adult Center where we provide day habilitation services in Athens County.
We are in need of a 1000 watt or larger Microwave, as many of our folks bring lunch items which need heated. If you have an extra one (rust-free) you'd like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. Please just let us know.
We could also use craft supplies, puzzles, wood crafts, old canvases that can be repainted, $1 or less bingo prizes (non-edible) and unexpired food or hygiene items for our blessing box.
You can message us here or call our main office at 740-594-3533.
Thanks for your help and your ongoing commitment to those we support!

We're so very grateful for our community partners. Thanks to our recent grant from People's Bank, we're able to fund anti-choking devices for all the homes in which we serve. Non-profits always need assistance when carrying out their missions and special projects, and People's Bank has always been there for us, ready to lend a hand!
Epic party games and the baby shower of the year! Congratulations to Wes and Emily on the upcoming birth of their first child!
Enjoying a game of Connect Four!

Way to go, Doug and Team!
Our friend Doug Latz is the winner of the ACBDD Outcome Achievement Award.
This award, presented each Spring during the all staff in-service training, is given to a person or team of people who supported individuals in achieving an exceptional outcome within the past year.
Doug, with the help of his team, led the way to remove his court-ordered guardianship. His team includes staff from the ACBDD and HAVAR.
In the nomination letter, it was noted that “Doug came to the decision that he felt he was capable of making decisions on his own. With the support of his team, he was able to accomplish this goal. Achieving this goal required collaborative efforts, including working with his physician to successfully overturn the court-appointed guardianship. This is not easily done.”
In addition, Doug was recently recognized within the Athens community for his outstanding contributions to recycling. In November, he received acknowledgment for his recycling endeavors from Commissioner Eliason and was honored with the Recycle Hero Award by the Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District. The Athens County Commissioners officially declared November 15th as Doug Latz Day in recognition of his efforts.
Please join us in congratulating Doug on being selected!
Doug's team members include Clayton Ray, ACBDD SSA; Lisa Simpson, HAVAR's Adult Day Array Services Manager; Wes Fillipow, HAVAR's Athens/Meigs County Program Manager; Debbie Schmieding, community member and former director of HAVAR; Scott Dennis, DSP with HAVAR; and Dr. Carl Ortman, MD.
Thanks to the efforts of Ms. Lisa Simpson, we were able to secure another grant. This time for equipment for our Buildings Bridges dayhab program in Athens.
