Morning commute. It’s Murphy’s oil and spilled whiskey. A couple laughs still bouncing off the beams. 1980s on some aging speakers. Creaking floor boards don’t creak as much as they used to. They just kind of complain that they didn’t get as much rest as they felt they deserved. Nod in agreement. Chairs come down. Coffee cup filled. A joke begins. It’ll probably last until the shift ends (or until death do us part. More likely). Students heading to class. Pep in their step. Looking at the horizon. So much good can happen today.
