Field trip day to the birth center!
Today a group of BGHS students visited our birth center as a part of their child development/parenting class. We toured the center, talked about informed decision making, and some newborn care. Students even got to practice their diaper changing and swaddling skills on our life-like model babies.

Not to be alarmist, but I think itโs reasonable to think we are going to be seeing some changes for people of reproductive age in NE Ohio and Western Pennsylvania in the near future. My heart hurts for those who live there and for us all. ๐

The final design in my birthy tarot series. I worked hard on these, I hope you love them!โจ
The Midwife practices an art that can sometimes be invisible. Seated, The Midwife is watching and waiting until needed. Patiently and expertly letting the process unfold... supporting but not always 'doing'. Skillfully, The Midwife uses tools both new and old, modern and traditional (symbolized by the fetoscope and iPad). The Midwife's practice is supported by the pillars of both the Art and the Science of Midwifery. The Midwife is the steady and calm rock, even when things may feel uncertain... providing options, support, and comfort. The Midwife is unafraid to look situations and people in the eye and face challenges with a courageous heart.
The second archetype in my new series! โจ
The Doula is the emotional cheerleader, the advocate. Though undoubtedly equipped with many tools of the trade, like twinkle lights and (of course) a birth ball, The Doula is usually found using the most important tool she has, her hands. Through thick and thin she provides a calming presence and reassurance. The Doula is there to walk beside others on their journeys over mountains, not fix things or put herself in the center. The Doula is there to illuminate options, provide comfort, and remind people of their own strength.
I am sooo excited to finally introduce this series!
The Mother is, of course, the first design in my Tarot Collection. โจ
Inspired by The Empress from tarot cards, The Mother is a slightly modernized nod to all who identify with her archetype. She is a force of nature, a microcosm of the universe. She understands things move in cycles, the moon, the tides, the seasons. She challenges herself and those around her to grow. An observer, nothing goes unnoticed around her. It may look like she's just drinking coffee or looking at her phone, but I assure you she's taking everything in, putting it all together like a giant kinetic puzzle. She represents the continuous effort of maintaining balance, the sweet spot between care of others and care for self.
