BIG NEWS for Athens County Residents yesterday. The Athens County Common Pleas Court struck down The City of Athens, Plastic Bag Ban as it completely violates State Law.

Plastic Bags are now legal for retailers to use for its customers. Ohio Univeristy was exempt from this ordinance and somehow the Athens Farmer’s Market was able to use them while the ordinance was in place.

Continually charging people for bags is ridiculous, especially when grocery prices are so high. I saw so many of our elders picking up their items in the parking lot as their paper bags ripped. Let us hope our retail establishments will bring them back ASAP!
