I love these girls! Nugget and Brownie were found at the landfill looking out for each other. They're sweet girls and can be difficult to tell apart now that Brownie isn't wearing a collar, but their toes and demeanors distinguish them. Nugget is the more social of the two and watches out for Brownie. Her front right foot is white and she's got a touch more light coloring on her body. Brownie is timid but very gentle, allowing handling (including carrying) without complaint. Her front left foot is white. I love pups like this, watching them flourish once they get comfortable. While they are close, they do not need to be adopted together (though Brownie, at least, would likely do better with another stable pup in the home to help her gain confidence--dogs learn so much from each other!). Sage and Hershey are BFFs who enjoy a good romp together. They're both good-natured and friendly to both the people and dogs they've met. Unfortunately, their person chose not to reclaim them, but that just means someone else will get lucky with one or both of them! While they get a long great, they do well when separated so they don't need to be adopted together. PLEASE SHARE/REPOST! 🚨THE SHELTER IS FULL!🚨 Meet Duque (Duke)! Duque (Duke) is an 8 month old shelter dog who hasn’t known much of a life outside of the shelter. He’s spent the last two months in the shelter and sadly this is no life for a puppy… Yesterday he had his second class and although he came in having forgotten what he learned last week 🙃, by the end of our session he was warmed up and even running through agility drills like a seasoned pro! The shelter is full and sadly when dogs don’t get adopted or go into foster, euthanasia is the only option to free up space for strays. Duque got extremely lucky when a generous human offered to foster him for a week, and we learned so much about his behavior outside of the shelter, but when/if he isn’t adopted or transferred to a new foster home by December 12, he will have to go back to the crowded shelter where his fate in the will be uncertain. WE NEED TO FIND HIM A NEW FOSTER OR ADOPTER ASAP! What we have learned about Duque: ✅He loves couch cuddle sessions. ✅He tries so hard to be good. ✅He LOVES his crate (HUGE bonus!) ✅He only plays with designated toys in the home. ✅He likes playing with other dogs, but due to growing up in the shelter, he’s a bit awkward, so supervision and slow intros are needed - he is a little roughhouse. ✅He is treat motivated 🙌🏼. This makes training easier. ✅He comes with sponsored training with Georgia Dog Trainer LLC to any local foster or adopter! ✅He is working on potty training in his foster home and is making lots of progress! ✅He LOVES being with people. Cookie and Rex
Cookie’s play mate went to a foster home, so I decided to introduce her to Rex. They got along fabulously! Twizzler and Krissy
Twizzler’s playmates all found fosters so I decided to see if he and Krissy would be BFFs. They hit it off immediately (though Twizzler didn’t seem to know what to make of her yodeling). play Play PLay PLAy PLAY!! Cookie and Frog are rough and tumble youngsters who have never met a human or canine stranger. Both are enthusiastic about life and don't let their stint at the shelter get them down. They immediately recognized the other as a kindred spirit and set to work getting to know each other. I love seeing the pups enjoying play time with each other, but it's hard seeing youngsters growing up in a shelter. We're still working to find Duque his perfect playmate. He's a happy friendly guy, but much less energetic than he appears in his kennel once he's out (so Frog was a bit much for him) but was still a little too much for Twizzler and Pieces yesterday. Regardless, he was polite and took both hard play and rejection nicely :-) (Maryland loved him but we've learned she loves EVERYONE canine--we're looking forward to the other youngsters at the shelter getting a few more vaccinations under their belts so she can have some playmates her age. Though even better would be them all getting adopted before then!) Duque has been at the shelter almost two months, which is a long time for a youngster. He's done great on outings and would make a great pal for another fun-loving but gentle pup! Frog & Cookie
Frog and Cookie are happy, playful youngsters. Frog recently had a great time in a holiday foster home, sleeping nicely in his crate and playing nicely with the children (ages 10-16) and dogs in the house. Cookie hasn’t had a chance for an overnight, but in the shelter she’s a bouncy pup who has never met a stranger. Both are available for adoption, foster, or rescue. Martin, Tilly & Pieces
Today’s play mates are Martin (black), Pieces (AKA Mama Blue Eyes), and Tilly! The best part about quiet shelter days? Getting to figure out who would make great playmates! Penny (black, young adult, female, ~ 50 lbs) and Tilly (tan, adolescent, male, ~ 40 lbs) had a blast playing yesterday! Both are sweet dogs and did great immediately. (They also played nicely with Chevy, who is also available for adoption.) Penny is friendly immediately with people--in another year, she'd have placed already. Tilly can be timid at first, and he flattens to the ground when he's unsure of where you're trying to take him, but he's gentle and soft and LOVES other dogs and follows their lead. *This* is the difference a great foster home makes! - Reeses (tall reddish dog) was so shut down in the shelter that she needed to be carried to an interaction pen, where she sat in a corner, tail tightly tucked. - Winter (white dog) was frustrated at staring at a kennel door all day and had started barking and jumping up to try to get attention, which just made people not choose her. - Lotty (light tan & cream) and Hallie (black and white) were newer, but neither stood out in a shelter of barking dogs. But look at them in their foster home! All are relaxing and learning to be dogs and the change in Reeses is dramatic. All 4 pups are supersweet, spayed, negative for heartworms, and available for adoption. (Individual photos and basic info for each is in the comments.)
