Get ready to kick off April with our upcoming events!
Last Friday, the UGA Career Center led a Career Caravan for a group of our students with two large companies in the biomedical field - and . 23 students made the trip, representing every class year – from first year to doctoral students – and biotechnical majors from the College of Engineering, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the Terry College of Business.
Boston Scientific is in the midst of a significant build-out of a new manufacturing facility in Johns Creek – the first new build manufacturing facility for the company in the domestic US. Students were engaged on the ins and outs of pursuing a job, internship, or co-op with Boston Scientific. Director Brian Lynam and his team spent significant time demoing various BSCI medical devices for our students, talking through their engineering challenges, medical uses, and the manufacturing processes.
Our final stop of the day was at the Johns Creek campus of Alcon, where eye-care products such as the integral Dailies contact lenses are developed, manufactured, and shipped around the US and the world. Our students connected with Alcon HR and spoke with an extensive panel of Alcon personnel, including their Research & Development scientists and their Manufacturing engineers.
Student feedback from the trip emphasized how meaningful they found the one-on-one interactions with each company’s staff members instead of solely the recruiting teams. Most significantly, they were thrilled to speak with two companies in an industry and geographical area of interest that are actively hiring for entry-level roles!
