What a weekend! Picked up a trailer as the newest addition to TruGrit BBQ, shattered a step stool, about breaking a leg or tearing everything in it (I’m good, just a little sore) and then competing and seeing everyone for the season opener for most.
Not exactly where we wanted to be to start the season but lots to improve on. Lost my skin on my chicken and then LIT the judges up with spice on my ribs. They didn’t like that AT ALL! But that 17th in Pork felt great with a stacked field!

What’d you smoke on 4/20!?! Ribs were my choice for the day! Even the lil man loved them!
Man am I excited to dive into this!!

1) Turn everything in on time✔️
2) Not get last place overall ✔️
Going into awards, I thought chicken was my best and pork was my worst. Well after awards, pork was my best and chicken was my worst! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chicken- 35/35
Ribs - 33/35
Pork - 19/35
Overall - 34/35
And I just looked, the table I was going up against in every category was the team who was the Grand Champion. So at least I got smoked by the overall champ!
This was the most fun I’ve had doing any type of competition. It’s addicting and the people there are great. So many willing to help, give advice and more. Even found a veteran team that wants to mentor me in Competition BBQ. I can’t wait for my next competition but before that, back to the lab!
Definitely better chicken than the last time and continuing to get better. Getting ready for the first competition this weekend with !
Haven’t posted in a minute but been busy getting some practice in for our first comp in March with ! More practice is ahead but excited for what’s happening so far!

My first smoked turkey that was all me!! The last time I helped smoke a turkey was my teenage years helping my Dad smoke them for others as a teenager. I miss him so much....
