Over 300 years ago today, the Germantown Quaker Petition Against Slavery became the first protest against the slavery of Black people made by a religious body in what would eventually become the United States. Four Pennsylvania Quakers drafted the petition and called upon our innate human rights and liberty to protest the practice, which would not be officially eliminated in the U.S. until 1865.

It's the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson desegregating baseball - an incredible achievement in itself, but the WWII 's story doesn't end there. After his athletic career, he continued to show up at the front lines of the movement, including fundraising to rebuild three Black churches that had been burned in retaliation to civil rights protests in Albany, .

A design competition was announced, and 21-year-old Yale architecture student Maya Lin earned the unanimous selection.
