One of our featured flights this month is the Capón Flight that comes with 3 one ounce pours of Cinco Sentidos Espadín Capón, NETA Bicuishe Capón and Rezpíral Mexicanito Capón.

Capón means castrated in Spanish - and it is the name given to batches of mezcal where the Mezcaleros cut off the flowering stalk (quiote) as soon as it appears to make full use of all those plant reproductive sugars in the spirit.

Tortuga y Chango is proud to announce a new Chef residency in our kitchen: Bienvenido Craig Headspeth, founder of Mascogo Tacos. You may have tasted one of Mascogo’s delicious tacos while he's been serving at Wild Heaven Avondale, or at Independent Distillery or as a solid Atlanta events caterer. We are excited to provide him a space to settle in and show our Oakhurst and Decatur family what deliciousness he has been perfecting.

Tortuga y Chango will run the bar portion of the space – we will continue to showcase what we believe to be Atlanta’s widest and deepest mezcal collection, along with fabulous margaritas, mojitos, beers and wines. Familiar faces will shake behind the bar, and new additions will continue to join us as we continue building the communal atmosphere while encouraging more family friendly dining.

We are open starting Jan 11th, Thursdays and Fridays 5–10pm, Saturdays 11am-9pm and Sundays 11am-7pm. No reservations! Order at the counter! Tortuga y Chango will continue our legacy to encourage exploration, education and comradery alongside the people, bottles and plates that we enjoy most. Welcome Craig! We are so grateful for your support - it means the world to us. We love that you see community and mezcal as vibrant, important, and expressive — just like we do. ❤️ We understand how much good food and good mezcal means to you- it means a lot to us.

It’s time for us to pivot : starting November 27th we’ll be changing the model of service for Tortuga y Chango as it currently exists, and halting regular dinner service. We have some holiday parties booked in December – and are open to booking any other lunch or dinner event (up to 45 people), especially with agave tastings.

We are in awe of and forever appreciative of each staff member who has ever worked with us to create the best mezcal bar this side of the Mississippi (IMHO, lol).
Especially those that have shared their gifts with us since before the beginning: the effusive creativity and balanced hands of Orestes, the mighty persistence and welcoming hospitality of Margarita, the steadfast leadership and problem-solving ingenuity of Cora, the consistent skill and earnestness of Rex, the tenacity and generous spirit of Phillip, and the absolute rock of our entire organization – the smile, the heart, the hands and the wit of Javier.

You can always find high quality mezcals and tequilas at our sister spot, in Edgewood. And we hope to toast alllllllllll of you – our friends – with agave spirits very soon.
