Blech. This year just sucked all around. Lots of masks and plexiglass. No dance parties, no hugging or kissing, delivery food becomes the norm, Matt gets braces, you get the point - s**t was awful. Warnock DOES save democracy, though.

2011: Xmas tree bonfire (this would become a yearly spectacle), Nonsense dance party, Twin Peaks themed anniversary party oh and this was the year the dated and controversial “don’t ask don’t tell” law ended in the military🌈 Also within that same month (September) a new species of dolphin was discovered 🐬

Long ago in the land of 2008 Matt Ruppert and a few his friends (Russel, Toby, and Charles) started a journey. After years in the industry Matt decided it was time to start a place of his own and put his Noni’s living room smack dab in the heart of Atlanta. In the following several years, 357 Edgewood avenue would cultivate an environment of inclusion, family, neighborly love, and delicious Italian cuisine of course. Noni’s was a party. Noni’s was a bar. Noni’s meatballs may even contain compelling universal secrets. But above all, Noni’s was a place for everyone. A safe-space to gather and dine and laugh and shake some serious b***y. The juke box only lasted a couple years though foreshadowing the oncoming “aux chord” wars 😂. So in light of our closing doors this year we reflect on all of the memories we’ve all made here the last 15 years. This set of photos are all from 2008. A blank canvas construction site of wood and concrete would blossom into a cozy cherry wood bar and black and white honeycomb walls showcasing photographs of our beloved grandmothers aka Noni’s. In the following weeks we will be sharing photos from every year from beginning to end. And while the word ‘end’ can seem scary, we won’t say goodbye just yet. For now we’ll just say, see you around ✨❤️✨

Our Story
An original anchor on Edgewood Avenue, Noni's has been serving up fresh Italian comfort food since 2008. We make everything from scratch, from the mozzarella in our obnoxiously big sandwiches to the bolognese in our lasagna. Atlantans are hooked on our meatballs, go nuts over our homemade pasta and would slap a loved one for our garlic fries. And when it gets dark we've been known to start a dance party or two.
Matt Ruppert started Noni’s in an old Veterinary building in the historic Old Fourth Ward. With the original co-owners Tobias Johanssen & Russell Myer, they built out the bar, dining room, kitchen, bathrooms, stone floor, patio, driveway and everything else you see besides the brick walls that hold up the main room.
“Noni” is Italian for grandparents and is affectionately named after Matt’s own Italian grandmother. Noni passed away just recently, in the spring of 2017, at the ripe young age of 96. A woman of legendary stories, she had a love for witty conversation, a good manhattan, & capri ci******es. As the head chef, Matt has taken his grandmother’s favorite foods and brought them here in easy to understand recipes in large portions. Along the wall in the banquette you can meet some of our other beloved grandmothers. These are pictures of the staffs’ & regulars’ grandmothers.
Noni’s dining & service philosophy is all about ‘a bene placito’ (Italian phrase for ‘at pleasure’). We want all our guests to take their time, come and go as they please, & relax! This is grandma’s house after all; so be yourself and don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t recognize some of ingredients or drinks.
