We envision a world-class global comparative labor studies program that serves African American workers and communities in the quest for meaningful lives, social justice, and a sustainable environment.
Morehouse ICLS-Black Men In Unions was a successful conference. On October 21-24, 2021 we had about 240 in- person participates from several national unions and representatives from over 10 states in Atlanta.
The union members were national, state and local leadership along with rank and file. We had a rigorous COVID-19 protocol during the entire conference( i.e., masks, frequent temperature checking, and social distancing,.etc).
We had national union leaders like AFSCME International President Lee Saunders, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond and Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre along with President of IBEW EWMC Keith Edwards.
The snapshot of participant’s who completed evaluations indicated mostly extremely satisfied with the overall conference. We plan to double our efforts for next year to advance Black labor critical voice in reimagining a 21 century labor movement.
