🕰 Ancient Tales with Fresh Blood! 💉🩸

The macabre myths and toe-tapping tunes you know and love with some brand-new spirits and specters! Our well-known Lady Dreadful welcomes fresh blood with a mausoleum of new Dreadfuls bringing back the stories that chill you to the bone!

This deadly ensemble of musicians, dancers, and puppeteers rises from the dead to take audiences into the world beyond this mortal plane with a cavalcade of creepy stories, frightful songs, and devilish dances unearthed from near and far.

Our seven talented phantoms play instruments, sing, dance, act, and incorporate a wide range of puppetry styles to tell their gothic tales. From marionettes and shadow puppets to hand and rod and tabletop puppets, the stories are as wide-ranging as the puppetry. From fan favorite “The 11:59” (based on a short story by Patricia C. McKissack about a former Pullman porter who hears the ominous whistle of an infamous ghost train), to a fantastically silly graveyard dance set to Saint-Saëns’ “Dance Macabre,” join us for a deliciously old school cocktail of death and humor, a reminder of what has always made Halloween so creepy and fun.

The Ghastly Dreadfuls runs October 2-26. Ages 18+

WHAT'S HE LOOKING AT?

Set in a future world of advanced technology, the inhabitants of the Pushbutton Planet lived in their own private space capsules with remarkable pushbutton systems inside to supply all the individual’s needs and wants while living in complete isolation from one another. The puppets in the capsules had huge eyes to view and process the content on their screens, and long arms and large hands to operate their pushbuttons. Their bodies, however, were tiny, with legs almost nonexistent from disuse.

In contrast, The Blue Garoo, contemplated on a faraway mountain. Being of more normal body proportions, he still had substantial legs from maneuvering on his mountain. He also had eyeballs that floated out of his head - a perfect design choice for a character who had to contemplate something far away!

🎨🖌 Blue Garoo is our puppet of the moth for Sketchbook Saturday next week! Get your tickets at puppet.org/programs/worlds-of-puppetry-museum

The Blue Garoo
Created by George Latshaw

Pushbutton Planet was directed by George Latshaw in 1969 and produced by the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts.
