Finished trauma with the best Chief Resident ever. It's always a pleasure working with the great . You're gonna be an amazing Vascular Surgeon. Thank you for all you do. Keep on shining, sister 🌟 🌟 🤩
Dearest Samantha Banton-Woolery, I still can't believe you're no longer here with us. It all feels like a dream. I still can't believe you're gone. So much much more left unsaid, so much more to do and accomplish in this life. You called me your senior resident, but it was I who looked up to you. I came to you for thoughts and advice on many issues. I sought your counsel on raising kids and being a parent. You may have been early in your surgical training, but you were a master at life and a fountain of wisdom. I love you. I miss you. Gone too soon. Our residency program is not the same without you.
With American College of Surgeons – I just made it onto their weekly engagement list by being one of their top engagers! 🎉
Worked Trauma overnight at Grady, and we couldn't do a lot due to no water/inability to sterilize operating instruments. Water issues throughout the City of Atlanta limited us to only emergent cases.
Meanwhile, at our place in Conyers: ⛱️ 🏊♂️

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. On this weekend, we remember all who have served this great nation. In honor of the , we also recognize Dr. Alexander Thomas Augusta, the first African American head of a hospital (Freedmen's Hospital) and the first black professor of medicine (Howard University in Washington, D.C.). Dr. Augusta was also the highest-ranking black officer in the Union Army during the Civil War.

My son, Richard, saw me studying/watching robot-assisted bariatric cases today and decided to join me. In the end, he concluded, "So cool...but that's a lot of work to lose weight!" I'm grooming a bariatric surgeon to follow in your footsteps haha
My oldest son, Nolan, has grown up so much. He told me he wanted to wear his J's to church today and he looked great.
Amazing family night. We tried a new traditional Northern Chinese restaurant in Duluth. Will definitely be going back. Plus, our son Richard tried some sautéed squid 🐙 ❤️
Another year down. Dissertation in the works. God is good.
We laid to rest my late cousin, Zuriel Alice, last weekend, who passed away recently in a tragic MVC. We miss her dearly. It was also a blessing to see many of my extended family members and friends after a long time.

Spent two days this week at Intuitive Headquarters playing with the new da Vinci 5 robot and learning all things robotic surgery. Fascinating equipment.
Late night Taco Bell run. 🌮🌯🍸
The curious case of Margaret Anne Buckley, also known as James Barry, is a captivating tale of identity, perseverance, and pioneering achievement in the field of surgery.
The most controversial aspect of James Barry's story revolves around the discovery of her assigned female gender identity after her death. Throughout her life and career, Barry successfully maintained the facade of being a man, deceiving colleagues, superiors, and society at large. It was only upon her death in 1865 that it was revealed that James Barry was, in fact, Margaret Anne Buckley, a woman.
Barry's story is fascinating not only for the audacity of her deception but also for the groundbreaking advancements she made in surgery during a time when women were largely excluded from the medical profession. Her achievements challenge conventional notions of gender roles and highlight the importance of inclusion and diversity in medicine.

Dr. Vivien Thomas' (1910–1985) story is one of my favorites throughout the history of surgery. It tells a tale of institutional racism, deviance, dedication, and raw talent when discussing surgical techniques.
One of Thomas's most notable achievements was helping to develop the "Blalock-Taussig shunt," a surgical procedure to alleviate cyanotic heart disease in infants.
