El Malo

Craft cocktail listening bar focusing on rum and agave-based spirits. Located at The Atlanta Dairies

08/23/2024

How curious it is to ride the fence of craft spirits and bespoke music curation, but our hope is that we showcase their symbiosis. “Sweet” anchors a blend as “Bass” in a mix. Treble are akin to the tart Mids. Bitter Highs. Spatial depth, like cask-aging. As we shun “Top 40”, so too is the bulk of our spirit selection “additive-free”. Every component melding together like a mastered two track; each sip resonating at its own frequency.

Weekend Program:
Thurs, Aug 22: We’re kicking off the weekend with something new: our good friends at present “Bam Bam” – a studied excursion of Jamaican classics, from Roots, to Rub-a-Dub, to Rocksteady. A message from our Beverage Director, Gabe Bowen:

“I've spent about 15 years behind the bar. The cocktail world has changed a ton since then. There are so many new iterations and techniques. The addition of social media allowing people to share creations and information – it's a whole new game. I'm thankful for the community that wants everyone to learn and grow into a completely new era of craft for the future. I'm also thankful for everyone who's been an influence personally in my career. Surrounded by so many passionate individuals is inspiring, and I couldn’t be more grateful for those who have supported me throughout the years in my own ambitions. I still have a long way to go, but I'm excited for this new chapter.”

The consummate professional with an unequaled palate and uncompromising standards, we couldn’t be more honored to have Gabe lead our bar program. When he's not online trading for obscure Barbadian Rums, he’s a loving cat dad and an abnormally-gifted bowler. Stop by tonight and try one of his many delicious creations – and if you happen to see him, ask about his current golf handicap or his uncanny impersonation of Creed. You know, stuff you normally talk about at a bar.

Boricua, Morena.
We didn’t invent the rum + coke. We just made it better.

’s winning creation is as much of a banger as its namesake song. Using Ocho Puerto Rican rum as our base spirit, we meld it with a concentrated reduction, before folding in coconut liqueur, chinato vermouth, and clarified lime, for a result that’s silky, complex, and sophisticated.

Put the espresso martini down for a change, and wrap your lips around this. Just in time for the weekend…

Murder Point, Alabama used to be called Myrtle Point – that is until two men fought over an oyster lease in 1929. One stabbed the other, and the name forever changed. Indeed, there couldn’t be a more on-brand oyster for us to feature.

Unlike other seafood, like shrimp or crab, oysters have an author. You order them by name, so when you eat them, you taste the labor that goes into preserving their distinct flavor profile: the perfect kiss of salt followed by a creamy, buttery richness on the backend. Now dressed with a Watermelon-Lime Mignonette, brunoise Shallot, Cucumber, and Mint, our new summer set are truly oysters worth killing for.

Upgrade your Wednesday evening with a fresh 1/2 dozen, the perfect cocktail pairings, and the soulful sounds of ’s “Channel Orange” – tonight.
