I am sad to announce that THE ARMORY is no longer a part of DragonCon. The new management has decided that the convention should no longer house our educational weapons museum and information track. We will take the ARMORY digital with a new informational website soon, but have to bid farewell to our DragonCon family. All is not completely lost. The Palmetto Knights and the popular Knight Fights alone will remain. Please follow them:

Another icon is lost. I at least had the privilege of meeting him at DragonCon. And I have one special Stan Lee Story that is particularly appropriate for Veteran’s Day.
I was attending the DragonCon Banquet several years back as a writer guest along with noted military author Kevin Dockery. We both ran the ARMORY track for the convention. Stan Lee, as the guest of honor, sat near the stage at a table, surrounded at all times by minders and adoring fans. We had several fans at our table, as was the tradition so fans could meet authors and celebrities, including one gentleman who admitted to being a serious Stan Lee fan and major comic collector. During the dinner conversation he showed great interest when learned Kevin had authored the History of the Navy SEALs. Eventually it came out that he himself had been a SEAL, and a plank holder (founding member) of SEAL Team 6! He had served with many of Kevin’s friends. When I heard this, I quietly left the table and pulled aside one of my friends, who happened to be one of the convention directors. I told him about the gentleman, knowing my friend had the utmost respect for SEAL’s and their service. I also told him that the former SEAL’s dearest wish was to meet Stan Lee. My friend only winked at me, as someone pulled him away to handle a crisis.
Moments later as the banquet reached its end, a huge throng of fans descended on Stan Lee’s table. I saw hope fade from our new friend’s face as an impossibly large crowd blocked our view of Mr. Lee’s table. I could tell he had given up any chance to meet Mr. Lee.
Suddenly my director friend appeared at our table, took our new acquaintance in hand and said only “come with me.” Kevin and I followed at a distance as the sea of people surrounding Stan parted before the director like Moses parting the red sea.
The director went up to Stan and whispered in his ear. “Mr. Lee, would you like to meet a real hero?” He then told Stan quietly who our new friend was. Stan Lee’s face lit up as he turned to face the former SEAL. Moments later they were both gushing appreciation at each other as if there was no one else in the room. Later Stan Lee thanked my director friend for allowing him to meet a SEAL. And our new former SEAL acquaintance became a dear friend and advisor.
Excelsior Stan! Rest in Peace.
Wow folks what a turn out. 500+ folks came out thursday night to come see us. Thank you so much
