#NavigatingTheJourney to housing and food
At we don't do everything nor do we "go it alone." Our place in Atlanta's homeless services ecosystem is clear: we address each of the many obstacles facing our unhoused neighbors to help them get .
Working with dedicated community partners like Clifton Sanctuary Ministries our team is able to guide neighbors in exploring new pathways to permanent housing. We're so grateful to do this work together.
Mr. L is one shelter guest who recently transitioned to housing due to our collaboration. We're all cheering for you, Mr. L! Welcome Home!

Meet Tanya, our new Senior Director of Development! As a member of our leadership team, Tanya spearheads our fundraising and mission-advancement strategy.
Tanya holds a bachelor's degree in English Education from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!), and has worked to raise funds for worthy nonprofit missions since 2015. Her favorite part of development work is the relationships that she is able to build with people who care deeply about the well-being of others. She enjoys spending time with her family; volunteering with other nonprofits, including serving on various boards; running; and reading.

At we work to provide easy access to food for neighbors who need it. With increasing numbers of neighbors experiencing food insecurity, the demand continues to grow.
In June we distributed 43,869 lbs of food (= 36,558 meals). We served 2,045 households (3,869 people), including delivering food to neighbors unable to travel to the pantry.
Food donations from the community are a huge help. Swipe left to view our Current Greatest Needs list. You can purchase items from the list or our Amazon wishlist. Drop off donations at McIver Hall on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

In Atlanta's landscape of organizations serving unhoused neighbors our primary focus is to provide outreach and navigation to help neighbors who face the greatest obstacles transition to their own homes.
We're grateful for partners like Trans Housing Coalition who are willing to take the extra step to help make it happen every day! 💛
Intown’s case managers support neighbors like Ms. J at every stage of our five-step model.
From taking clients to medical appointments, showing them how to navigate Atlanta’s public transportation system, helping them apply for support services, and arranging travel for wheelchair-bound clients, our case managers guide and encourage neighbors at every step along the way. Even after neighbors are housed, the support remains.
These ongoing services rely on the support of people like you, and the need is growing.

The end of our fiscal year is approaching. Help us close out the year strong with a gift to for neighbors who face the greatest obstacles.
Many of our neighbors have been unhoused for a long time, living in conditions few of us will ever know, some with a diagnosed disabling condition. Like Ms. J, these neighbors often face some of the greatest obstacles to housing. Here at , we believe obstacles can be overcome. We work to help neighbors get .
Our outreach process requires compassion and a lot of legwork. Case managers travel to encampments repeatedly, bringing medicine, food, and other essentials, like eyeglasses and cellphones, to neighbors.
Even when encampments close and displaced neighbors seek shelter elsewhere, our case managers track them down, ensuring they are well, have what they need, and that they continue to make progress on their housing applications.

The end of our fiscal year is approaching. Help us close out the year strong with a gift to for neighbors who face the greatest obstacles.
Last year we achieved a tremendous milestone in our mission to prevent and reverse homelessness and hunger in Intown Atlanta. We housed our 1,000th neighbor. Through the persistence of our team, the dedication of our partners, and the commitment of our community of supporters, we have walked alongside more than 1,000 men and women as they navigated toward permanent housing.
For many clients like Ms. J, the journey to housing is not easy and often comes with complications and setbacks, but we are committed to working to find a way to get neighbors . Ms. J first faced homelessness in 2018 when she lost her last apartment as a result of incarceration.
Your support helps Intown deploy one of the most effective teams in Atlanta that works to help neighbors experiencing chronic homelessness navigate the complex journey to housing. We're recognized for persistence and creativity in helping unhoused neighbors make their journey home. We go to where these neighbors are, build trust, help them acquire documentation, and move toward permanent housing.

We believe that nothing should stand in the way of housing. But all too often, members of the LGBTQ+ community face significant barriers, resulting in housing instability and homelessness.
Thankfully, a better future is on the way. The efforts of partners like Trans Housing Coalition and supporters like you make it possible for our team to for neighbors who face the greatest obstacles.
Looking back over the past year to a few neighbors that are now ! Jerayla, Ayana, Jaz, Ms. Rainey, and Dakota -- we're cheering for you always.
Our work to solve homelessness and hunger includes advocating for social justice and equity within Black communities.
Happy Juneteenth aka Freedom Day! Let's commit to the ongoing freedom movement as we all work towards creating a more just society.
Our Director of Food Programs (Laura) is back from the National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the Food Research & Action Center. While there, she and other Georgia advocates met with Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock to discuss policies to combat hunger and food insecurity in our state.
Over a thousand anti-hunger advocates from across the country came together at to learn legislative best practices, explore innovative advocacy methods, and connect to help better fight hunger in their communities.
Working to for increasing numbers of neighbors means being a part of critical dialogue to bring change. Join us! Learn more about our work: intowncares.org/what-we-do/foodprograms

Happy Pride from Intown!
Our work to solve homelessness and hunger requires advocating for the end of the discrimination and violence experienced by LGBTQ+ and gender nonconforming people.
Members of the LGBTQ+ community face significant barriers in many areas of their lives, including housing – leading to housing instability and homelessness.
LGBTQ+ individuals, especially youth and young adults, are highly overrepresented in the unhoused population and are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than non-LGBTQ+ youth.
This we'll highlight and celebrate our year-round work to provide resources and support to our LGBTQ+ neighbors experiencing homelessness and hunger. Join us!
Housing ends homelessness. We say it all the time. And we say it because it’s true.
Time and time again, we’ve witnessed what happens when a neighbor experiencing chronic homelessness gets access to permanent housing. Dignity is restored. Health improves. Confidence is boosted. Transformation begins.
Reliable housing is not just essential for physical health and safety – it's critical for a healthy mind and spirit, too.
Join us in solving homelessness for neighbors who face the greatest obstacles to housing and providing the peace that comes with it.
Georgia children are at high risk of food insecurity, with 1 in 5 children facing hunger, an increase from 1 in 8 last year (Feeding America Map the Meal Gap Study).
Food assistance providers like Intown are all preparing for an increase in demand this summer. With local school districts closed for summer break, school meals, which many children rely on, have gone away. This places an added burden on families that may already struggle to make ends meet.
We are committed to working to ensure that children and their families have access to nutritious food during summer break.

"I came to Intown through my case worker. I have never been on this side of the fence and didn't know what to do. Your volunteers are amazing. Your variety is amazing. I need fresh fruit and vegetables for a chronic life illness. I was out of food due to paycheck shortages and copays for treatment. Thank you so much for allowing me to eat healthy foods."

In Georgia, 1 in 9 people are food insecure - dealing with limited and uncertain access to adequate food at a household level, to live an active, healthy life.
For many neighbors like Ms. A, food banks and food pantries like Intown's are a lifeline. Through our Food Programs, we work to and alleviate food insecurity for increasing numbers of neighbors in need.
We're grateful to be able to incorporate fresh produce and refrigerated meats and dairy into our weekly distributions to ensure our neighbors can reduce the risks for food-related health conditions.

Step 1 of our Homeless Services model focuses on effective engagement with neighbors experiencing homelessness to establish trust and develop a rapport through compassionate, long-term, and consistent outreach to where they sleep/live. That involves addressing immediate life needs, including delivering a good read to our bookworm neighbors.

Ms. J is after navigating the journey to housing with our Program Manager (Stephanie)! The mom of four recently moved into a three-bedroom house. She is excited and grateful that she and her children, including a baby, are housed. Our team recently visited the family and delivered a few air mattresses for use while they wait on furniture.
We're able to support clients like Ms. J through our Project for Assistance in Transition (PATH) grant awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) earlier this year. The PATH grant funds focused support and additional services to neighbors with serious mental illness experiencing homelessness. Supported services include referrals for primary health care, job training, educational services, and housing.
Welcome Home, Ms. J! We're all celebrating with you and are so glad to be a part of your journey!
