Our amazing faculty works with dyslexic learners every day and have created a list of of tips to keep in mind when supporting these students. Please share to spread awareness!
Understanding dyslexia is the best way to support dyslexic learners inside the classroom. In the past, schools have avoided using dyslexia and dyscalculia, which resulted in less students receiving the type of support and specific instruction they needed to succeed. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Education issued guidance to school systems to not feel reluctant to use these terms when describing a particular child's learning needs. It is important schools understand what reading difficulties look like in order to understand how to improve instruction for students who struggle.

Dyslexics are multi-dimensional, creative, out-of-the-box thinkers, but that doesn't mean they don't get discouraged! It is important to talk openly with your child about dyslexia and remind them that dyslexia is NOT a problem with intelligence or lack of motivation. Stress and anxiety may arise when dyslexic students are learning new concepts, so remember to be patient with your child and create a supportive environment in which they can reach their full potential.
