The 𝑩𝑬astin’ Beta Epsilon Chapter of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. 🔱 had the honor of attending the annual Hermano Convention that took place en La Isla del Encanto— San Juan, Puerto Rico, celebrating our academics, brotherhood, culture, and service. 📜🫱🏽‍🫲🏾☀️⚔️

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day in 1865 where Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas informing enslaved Black people in the Confederate South of their freedom.

Though Juneteenth is a commemoration, it is also a day recognizing the fight for racial equity and justice is far from over. In the spirit of Juneteenth, we must never give up hope in times of uncertainty.

Bio: Sebastian Mijangos-Plazas is a first-generation Music Education major. He always strives for the best and finds that proper planning and preparation lead to success. He plans to be a high school band or chorus director after graduation, to make the world a better place through the use of music, and hopes to inspire future generations to create a place for everyone. He loves his family and friends; once you get to know him, you will become part of his family. 🌟

Fun fact: He is skilled in various martial arts and has a black belt in taekwondo. 🥋

Bio: Johan Hernandez is a first-generation student majoring in Computer Information Systems. His drive for success comes from the support of those around him who want to see him thrive. After graduating, he plans to pursue a career in Data Analytics, with a potential interest in Cybersecurity and Software Development. Keep an eye out for exciting events at Georgia State University, as he plans to collaborate with notable organizations. He was recently accepted to the executive board for a notable organization at our institution, so lookout for that! He also recently acquired the TRiO SSS Scholarship and plans on acquiring more. His fitness journey has embodied his passion to pursue a career as a dietitian and help others overcome that fitness barrier that may seem impossible to achieve. As a first-generation Mexican-American Student, Alex looks forward to becoming the first person in his family to receive a Bachelor’s and master’s degree in the United States. 🌟

Fun Fact: Alex lost 75 pounds (230 —> 160) in 8 months.🏋️‍♂️
