The simple change is a movement that appears in some dressage tests.
Contrary to what its name would have you believe, there’s nothing “simple” about it.
As the rider, you need to be very clear and coordinated with your aids, and your horse needs to respond to them almost instantaneously for this movement to be smooth and seamless.

A properly fitted safety vest or body protector is one of your best defenses against a fall-related injury. Such injuries include bone fractures and internal organ damage. However, a vest functions properly only when it’s fitted correctly. Follow these instructions to make sure you’re protected.

Raise the bar but deal with reality.
Among the riders I know, admire and compete with, I've noticed the following: They understand the basics. They train themselves. They perfect the details and trivialities of what they do. They master their positions and their strategies. Then they put their heads down, close out the crowd and let it flow.

Katie Dooley Patton, long-time member and friend of GDCTA, was given The Gifted Memorial Fund for Adult Amateurs from DTF. Congratulations to Katie!
Have you applied for any grants? Have you won any? Let us know!
The Gifted Memorial Fund for Adult Amateurs was seeded with donations received in special remembrance of Carol Lavell’s great dressage horse, Gifted. Its purpose is to “give permission” to adult amateur riders to set aside quality time, in concentrated training, away from the daily pressures of job and family.
These grants are meant for adult amateurs to have the opportunity to be in an extended training situation that is different from his/her normal training plan. Volunteerism is an important requirement for these grants; preference is given to applicants who have strong volunteer history with their GMOs.
Up to nine $1,500 grants are available each year (one in each USDF Region), plus two additional $1,500 wild card grants (which can be awarded in any Region). The deadline to apply is September 15.

Equestrians
GDCTA is one of the most dynamic equestrian organizations in the state, offering a year round slate of events.
On any given weekend, you will find GDCTA, providing educational opportunities, organizational assistance & volunteer support, while encouraging new organizers, new riders, and cheering on the advanced competitors as well.
Get more involved! GDCTA is growing and looking for more committee chairs and members to help keep things moving along smoothly.
Joining a GDCTA committee is a great way to interact with leaders of the organization, and to have a voice in its future! Committee membership carries with it an obligation to participate actively in committee work through contribution of time, prompt replies to board inquiries and attendance at some meetings. Committee members are chosen as individuals, not as representatives of farms or groups. Personal experience and ability are the most important criteria. To apply to a committee, contact the committee chair(s).
