Videos by The Aquinas Center of Theology in Atlanta. The Aquinas Center enhances knowledge of the living Catholic tradition in order to better engage the spiritual and moral life of the Church.
The Aquinas Center is hoping to raise $5,000 this month to grow our Spanish-speaking community programs. Your generosity will expand our outreach to the Spanish speaking members of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, who comprise the largest race and ethnic group at 43.8% of the Catholics in the Archdiocese of Atlanta1.
The Aquinas Center’s Mission is clear that our Catholic programming needs to represent the rich diversity of the Church both broadly and locally. Valeria Longhi, our Hispanic Program Coordinator, shares more about the Aquinas Center’s exciting work she is proud to be a part of! Valeria’s work centers in connecting with the heart of the Spanish speaking community, understanding their theological needs, and curating programming that resonates with their lives.
To expand our programming, Valeria is conducting a second round of focus groups this spring, which have already revealed a desire for deeper theological engagement among our Spanish speaking community. But it's not just about discussions and developing programming; it's about meaningful action. We've already witnessed the power of our events, like the transformative 'Mental Health and the Dignity of Family' held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Together, we delved into the challenges faced by families grappling with mental health struggles, fostering empathy and understanding.
Our most recent program at Divine Mercy Catholic Mission with Cardinal Christophe Pierre illuminated Pope Francis' profound vision for the Synod. With each event, our community grows stronger, more connected, and more inspired.
With your support, the Aquinas Center can reach our goal of $5,000 to expand our Spanish program offerings!
We thank you for your generosity!

Your generosity will expand our outreach to the Spanish-speaking members of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, who comprise the largest race and ethnic group at 43.8% of the Catholics in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. In 2019, the Aquinas Center began our work to build the Spanish-speaking Programming Initiative, and that work has evolved over the years. Valeria Longhi leads that work, which entails focus groups in local parishes to hear directly from the community to determine programmatic needs. We plan to expand this work in both the short-term and in the years to come. Through our initiatives and programs, we are committed to creating spaces for dialogue and to addressing emerging theological questions. Your generosity over these past years has enabled us to offer scholarly resources that highlight the perspectives, experiences and insights of Catholics for the future of our beloved Church and community. We feel compelled to expand our offerings to be represent the growing and predominant Spanish-speaking population. With your support, the Aquinas Center can reach our goal of $5,000 to expand our Spanish program offerings. We thank you for your support and for your continued generosity! Conflict in the Christian Life
Fr. Gerard McGlone on the importance of embracing conflict within the Christian life: "In our history key women like Teresa of Avila, Mother Teresa, Dorothy Day, Catherine of Siena, and countless others who have handed down their faith have responded forcefully to Paul and corrected him. And even those who sat in the chair of Peter, like Clare."

100% Excellent Rating for Father Hehir Lecture On our assessment cards, 100% rated Father Hehir as excellent. Our Major Catholic Speaker, Father Bryan Hehir, effectively explored our theme this year of the "Pope Francis Effect". A master speaker, he unpacked with nuance and detail the mission of Pope Francis of mercy in the Church and justice in the broader world. The large audience for his talk described on their assessment cards the talk as follows: OUTSTANDING! Loved his take on the Pope/Church Father Hehir is a gifted teacher! More like this, please. Smart world thinkers. Thank you, please come to our other events this spring.
Yesterday, Bo Adams of Pitts Theology Library showed off a wonderful collection of very old Orthodox texts to Solon and Marianna Patterson and Fr. Panayiotis Papageorgiou and his wife, Catherine, and the Aquinas Center Outreach Director, Alice Cameron. Solon and Marianna are the visionaries behind the Catholic Orthodox Initiative at the Aquinas Center.
