Highland Woodworking has been America's dependable source for woodworking tools, books, supplies and education for over 40 years.
The Woodworker’s Guild of Georgia is hosting an online symposium with Gary Rogowski on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 7.30pm EST.
Until recently, registration has been limited to guild members, but there are a few seats left! If you are interested in signing up, see the link in our profile/bio.
This is open to any woodworker!
Once registered, you’ll receive the Zoom link to the symposium on May 10, 2024.
Coming up this weekend, May 4-5, Spinning Spindles with Jeff Wyatt-
Day one starts out with learning good old fashioned spindle turning techniques. Preparing the blank, mounting, marking, beads, coves, etc.
Day two will build on day one, and you’ll work to produce a hand turned Peppermill that works as a handmade, functional, centerpiece for any dinner conversation.
If you’ve taken a bowl turning class before, this class is the logical next step to expand your lathe skills. If you’ve never taken a lathe class before, turning spindles is a great place to start!
Find a link to this class, and more, in our profile bio!
If you can not access our website this weekend, find a link to the catalog in our profile/bio.
You can call us at 1-800-241-6748 to place an order until 5pm EST Saturday, and from 12.30-4.30 EST Sunday.
We’re still working with our web host to fix the certificate issue, and hope to be fully back to normal soon.

Remember this time last week when we were all staring up to the sky?
It turns out, we documented the 1984 total eclipse in one of our old fashioned Wood News distributions.
The next total solar eclipse for US(A) will be in 2044. To get ready for it, we recommend our variety of classes that can be found in our profile/bio.
Sign up for one or two of these, and you’ll have the skills to make your own pinhole viewing device!
More importantly, you won’t have to try finding viewer lenses at the last minute, and your woodworking game will level up!😆😆
We have some interesting classes coming up.
Ever wanted to see if building a canoe is for you? Check out our strip canoe class with Carley Abner on April 6th.
If canoe building is too esoteric, take a look at our epoxy cutting board class with Char Miller-King on April 13-14.
As someone that started woodworking with YouTube videos, and has since been able to have in-classroom experiences, there is no comparison. Being in a classroom setting with an expert will accelerate your skill growth, and keep you from wasting time and material.

Starting at 1pm today, stop by to spend some time with woodworker and toolmaker Rusty Tchernis as he explores the mystery and magic of the spokeshave!
If you’ve never used one before, you may find it’s the tool that’s been missing all of your life. If you have used one, come pick up a few new tricks!
Looking for something to do this weekend? We’ve got options!
Saturday is a hand cut dovetails class with Jeff Wyatt. There are a couple of spots still open!
If you don’t want to commit a full day, then stop by on Sunday for a spokeshave demo with Rusty Tchernis that starts at 1pm. If you’ve never used a spokeshave, or have spent some time with one, stop by for what is going to be an informative experience! If you’re shaking off the time change, we’ve got some great brunch/coffee/doughnut options within walking distance!
If you’ve been waiting to upgrade your table saw, now is the time! From March 1 through April 30th, with any purchase of a 1.75 or 3hp Sawstop PCS saw, you can pick one of three useful accessories.
The Sawstop 8” Dado blade.
The Sawstop overarm dust collection.
A 60-tooth carbide combination blade and Sawstop Scale Miter Gauge.
This deal requires some follow up to claim your prize, and must be redeemed within 30 days of purchase, so keep that in mind. We’re happy to help you get through submitting your claim.
If I had to re-buy my PCS saw, I think I’d go with the Dado Blade. What would y’all pick?
Congratulations to Sidney Dew who is retiring after 38 years!
After working at Highland Woodworking since 1985, today is Sidney's last day. He has been an incredible ambassador for Highland all these years, connecting closely with countless thousands of customers both in our store as well as by telephone. Congratulations to Sidney for his long and successful career serving woodworkers!
We will be closed Sunday, 12/24 and Monday 12/25. We hope you enjoy a wonderful holiday!
A few days ago, our Canadian friends were looking at silly prices to order a WoodSlicer bandsaw blade.
$50 blade + $40 turtle shipping + GST. Conversion from USD to CAD, another 37%, for a grand total of ~$$$$
No longer! LeeValley is now the exclusive distributor of the WoodSlicer in Canada! The 3/4” Slicers are listed on their site, but if you need a 1/2”, give them a call at 1-800-267-8767.
For a link to order, see our profile/bio.
Thank you Lee Valley Tools!
The seat carving demo with Jeff Wyatt is live!
C’mon down and seat it yourself!
No traffic, free parking!
For some, there is debate about the curvature of the earth. For others, there is debate about the curvature of grades.
For woodworkers, there is no debate about the curvature of a seat. It either feels good, or doesn’t.
Learn how to shape that debate this weekend! Jeff Wyatt will be doing a seat carving demo this Saturday (9/30/23) at 10am.
No punch and pie will be available, but you can visit our neighbors at PERC Coffee and Doughnut Dollies to get your morning accelerants.
If you like what you see, or want to know more about Jeff, see him in our latest Highland Woodworker video available on YouTube or by clicking/tapping the link in our bio!
Live! In person! One day only!
Jeff Wyatt, whom you may have seen in the latest episode of the Highland Woodworker, will be at our store this Saturday (9/30/23) at 10am to do a seat carving demo. Be mystified as he takes a plain old cookie of wood and turns into a resplendently shaped disc comfortable for any… well, you know!
No coffee or snacks will be served, but you can make a morning out of it by visiting our neighbors across the street like PERC Coffee and Doughnut Dollies!
If you like what you see, and want to learn more, we just happen to have a 3-day class Jeff will be teaching in November.
For details about the class, and to see the Highland Woodworker video, check the link in our profile/bio, or send us a DM! If you want to see some woodworking magic, just stop by!
Hock Wooden Spokeshave Kit…

Tools to make the spokeshave…$700
Messing up and buying another kit…$84
Skipping all of that and taking a class…
Next Saturday (8/12) join Rusty Tchernis in
our air conditioned tool-filled classroom as he guides
you through making your very own spokeshave!
Starting with a wood blank, a blade and some
hardware, over the course of the day you will learn
how to not only turn these seemingly unrelated items
into a fully functioning tool. Additionally, you will learn
techniques that will carry over to making other tools,
shaping wood for any project and the care and feeding
of your new spokeshave.
If you’ve never taken an in person class before, this is
a great one to start with!
Find a link to the class in our profile/bio, or go to our
website and click/tap ‘Classes’ on the home page.
Just in time for free shipping on orders $99 and above! (Excludes freight items 🤬) The secret code is: freeship99
Some good single item options that just cross that threshold are Forrest saw blades, Lie Nielsen planes and backsaws, Gransfors-Bruks and Mueller axes, and the Silky Katanaboy for the serious timber worker.
If you’re unsure what tool to get, we also have free shipping on all of our classes! While we are winding down for summer, there are still some good options available including Sharpening 101 with Jim Dillon and Build a Bandsaw Box with Milton Miller next week! So make it an early Father’s Day and come spend some time with us next week!
Links to the classes can be found in our profile/bio.
Rusty Tchernis was in the Seminar Room this week getting ready for next Saturday’s class: Build a Spokeshave. Having putting hands on some finished examples, and the one he built from scratch that day, anyone taking his class will not be disappointed!
While, you can purchase a nice handmade one for about the price of the class, where is the fun in that???!
Join us next Saturday for what is sure to be an interesting, fun (Rusty has a great personality), and rewarding day spent building your own spokeshave! 🪚🧰🌳

Join Sabiha () for a 2 day class on carving in not one, not two, but three dimensions!

We've got another episode of The Highland Woodworker coming soon! Watch a quick preview now!
The key to attainable New Year’s resolutions is picking ones that are fun and interesting.
For instance, I’ve decided I’d like to learn how to carve reliefs this year so I can make my furniture pieces stand out. I’ve watched some videos on YouTube (Mary May’s channel is a treasure trove) but I just can’t seem to get the basic techniques right. How will I ever meet my resolution??
I know! It looks like Highland Woodworking has a relief carving class at the end of January!!
Join us January 28 & 29 for in depth class with Sabiha Mujtaba as she covers the basics of relief carving; techniques, tools, and working to craft 3 pieces with you over the 2 day course.
To sign up, follow the link in our profile/bio. Pictured here are examples of Sabiha’s work.
PS - There’s more bowl turning classes and I’ve heard a slate of finishing classes with Alan Noel will be showing up in the next week or two!
Sometimes, projects don’t work out the way you want them to.
Aside from accelerant(s) and flame, what creative things do you do with projects that aren’t up to s***f?
Class is in session!
Phil Colson explains why you shouldn’t use dry wood for bowl turning. Turns out it has a tendency to set ablaze!
Good thing we have Atlanta Fire Station 19 next door!🔥🔥🎄🪵👨🏻🚒👨🏿🚒👨🚒👩🏽🚒👩🏻🚒
