When we say we are locked in to seeing the need and doing the GUD (Get up and DO), it’s typically situations that get overlooked.
Turning a blind eye to an environment created to turn children around without the necessary resources to do so is problematic.
We’ve committed to pour our time and energy into this facility and have had some small wins over the past month. These wins were made possible by & a group of DoGUDers across the country responding to our in-house ambassador Geechie Gurl’s call. They mobilized to begin fulfilling our Amazon List and sending donations to help us do what needs to be done.
It is truly a challenge to have people trust our vision, especially when they see things that are not typical school supplies.🤷🏾♀️ Welp unconventional situations require unconventional strategies which requires unusual tools.
THANK YOU for trusting our judgement thus far.
Our Founder is a certified educator with years of experience in project based learning and has a successful track record for doing the “impossible” with the underserved. We will not fail.

It’s safe to say Marvin's Seafood is invested in the community when the owner does the delivery personally to one of our project sites.
We needed a small refrigerator freezer on site for the parent center for upcoming events to support families and the need was met!
Thank you for doing the GUD, James!
We’ll see you soon to get our order in for a few bushels of crabs!

Did you know our Founder, Erica Alcox holds a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences formerly known as Home Economics?
It is at the core of every initiative and program we implement and believe us when we say we produce lifelong results for individuals who participate!
from AARP! Seems like we see an invite in the making for our next gathering!
If there’s one class we’ll never forget (because we use it every day), it’s home economics. Spanning everything from cooking and table manners to sewing and budgeting, home ec taught secondary schoolers across America what they needed to know to take care of themselves and their future families. Home ec was an essential part of curriculum for years, but started to be phased out of schools in the early 2000s. What is the most useful skill you learned in a home ec class?
Natural remedies are always intriguing to learn and use.
Did you know?
So I have been recently introducing some of the simple wonders of essential oils, and on this trip particularly, have been working with one of many people's favorite - lavender.
If you aren't familiar, this essential oil is very versatile with calming, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial actions. Here, I helped people dealing with skin irritation, unhealed wound, and inflamed bruise by applying the oil topically.
This essential oil and others, I offer via yew360.com or you can message me if you are looking for another essential oil that you don't see on the website.
And this is how the GUD gets done.
We’re asking our GUDie Mob to stand with us through ACTION.
There’s work to be done.✊🏾
I made a student cry today.
Hear me out.
I believe it’s important you hear about how it all went down. Idk if you really needed to be there to understand the magnitude of what happened. It’s my belief most of you reading will get it because you KNOW what the climate is like with kids in general and in education specifically. If you don’t know, it is far from pretty.
For 3 weeks, I’ve observed a small group. Every cuss word, spoken at the highest level, and every opportunity to do the WRONG things has been the routine.
3 weeks of this.
I finally see my golden opportunity to have a conversation with 3 of them where I am listening to their explanations for a poor choice they all made together then only talking to get their confirmation of if I heard them correctly as to not misinterpret. By the end of that conversation, I get 3 verbal commitments to “try something different”. It’s important to know I did not request that.
They took accountability and initiated it on their own. I acknowledged that as a great first step and shared that I look forward to observing the proof through their actions with no pressure from me as I’m a fan of tangible results from free will.
In the meantime, I’m given the greenlight to facilitate a few project based learning initiatives to assist with Social Emotional Learning. I type up the permission slips, am very intentional/strategic with the wording and tone of the permission slips and begin to decide who are my first 20.
Fast forward to today.
My first recipient is on their way to their mother’s car and I go outside to speak. When the student gets in the car, I pull out a folder with the permission slip and ask them to read it out loud for Mom to hear it.
Ultimately, it says they have been secretly observed for a while and them doing what they said they was going to do is being celebrated AND supplemented with some additional strategies as part of a group of selected students.
Their. Mouth. Fell. Open.
They covered their face and started crying.
I didn’t expect that response. I imagine they’re not used to being chosen for positive things for DOING positive things. I made sure they heard me say to remember how they feel in this moment and if they liked the result of trying something different. They nodded yes with their face still covered and tears flowing. I said let this feeling become their motivation to do whatever it takes to feel THAT every chance they get. It’s called peace and TRUE joy. I told them to enjoy the rest of their day and closed the door.
I am willing to bet something beautiful is going to happen before the end of this year.
No candy. No chips. No kind of treat bribery.
Just patience, compassion, accountability, and action.
This is what I mean about taking my efforts OFFLINE.
I have adopted this group and focusing solely on them for several reasons. It’s a state of emergency with this group. 1) Last week, I observed one of them in a situation with local authorities. That is all I’ll say about it. I had to sit in my car for a while to ground myself afterwards. (Empath first aid tool.) 2) They don’t get resources at the level they need/REQUIRE considering the dynamics of behavior and academic data 3)I know if I pour my skills, talents, connections, and Presence into them, greatness has no choice but to happen. It’s been that way since 1998.
I understand my assignment and that’s what has my doubtful side sitting under a bridge getting some self talk and a sprinkle of cussing from my Higher self as I walk into the lion’s den.
So if you are still reading, and have been keeping up with my last few posts, I believe you are part of the solution.
I need assistance getting a few preliminary supplies. Hear me well when I say

I’m saying thank you now and will show my gratitude during and after the process that has already started changing the game for some young people who had lost the desire to be on their own team.
I am replaying the visual of that student who has fought, cussed, and disregarded authority weeping from a simple piece of paper I slipped into a folder I was able to get so it looked as official as possible.
I’m still lowkey shook…in a GUD way.
Intention is powerful when action is applied.💜
