Each June, NeighborWorks America America and its network of 250 local organizations, including ANDP, mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers, businesspeople, neighbors, friends, and local and national elected and civic leaders in a week of neighborhood change and awareness.

To join the NeighborWorks Week activity, ANDP hosted its 10th Annual NeigbhorsTogether to tackle another important topic... health equity. 100 neighborhood leaders and health advocates joined us at Atlanta Metropolitan State College (Official) to engage in a half-day conversation led by Out Of Hand Theater and their new hashtag initiative. Our thanks to J. Cassandra Booth for providing a welcome from NeighborWorks America.

Attendees were treated to a special performance highlighting the challenges too many people, especially low-income and people of color, face when trying to access health care and engage with their medical professionals. The performance was followed by an opportunity to participate in small group sessions. Attendees shared their personal experiences and their suggestions for improving systems and access. To understand the role of healthcare advocates, Jeff Smythe of the Atlanta Regional Collaborative for Health Improvement (ARCHI) sat down with East Point Public Health Initiative member Zakiyah Morris (also a member of the ANDP CLI Team)

We especially thank Out of Hand and its new initiative, Thriving Together Atlanta. We also thank our partners at NeighborWorks America for their vital ongoing support of our work, including our Neighbors Together Program. We also thank our event sponsors, Pinnacle Financial Partners, PNC, Publix Super Markets Charities, and State Farm. Although "Jake from State Farm" couldn't join us, a team of volunteers from State Farm did! Thanks to them for their assistance.

We also recognize our Neighbors Together / CLI Team members who were selected to attend NeighborWorks America's National Community Leadership Institute, return to Atlanta, and help create Saturday's special event: Maria White-Dumas, Ladonna Hampton, The Honorable Keisha Jeffcoat, Zakiyah Morris, and Nakia Romans.

If you want to learn more about ANDP's Neighbors Together community leadership initiative, please get in touch with Susan Adams at [email protected].

If you are ready to take your neighborhood leadership to the next level, join us next Saturday, June 10 from 10a -2p for a free leadership training event. In celebration of NeighborWorks Week ANDP continues its annual "Neighbors Together" training opportunity.

Karimah Nonyameko will lead participants through community development models while exploring how community-building activities fit into a broader approach and discussing how new strategies, partnerships, and resources can create positive change.

If you are ready to take your leadership to the next level, perhaps it’s time to be a changemaker in an elected role. Join Ronnie Galvin as he talks with a panel of current and former elected officials about how and why they decided to take their passion for their communities to the next level by running for office.

Lastly, Join us in recognizing Ms. Naeema Gilyard, nominated for NeighborWorks America’s Dorothy Richardson National Award for Resident Leadership! Former CLI member Ms. Gilyard has been a pioneer in the environmental justice movement for decades. Most recently, she successfully advocated for EPA funding to support the installation of air monitors to collect data on hazardous pollutants in her South Fulton community caused by illegal dumping, trash burning, and industrial warehouses.

Lunch provided... and there are door prizes! All in attendance will be in a drawing for a free Apple iPad and three $250 Home Depot gift cards. Details and free registration: https://www.andpi.org/nww23

If there’s been one silver lining of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s that the important work of serving under-financed and under-resourced communities is now clearer than ever.

However, in Georgia, despite the recent influx in federal funding, there is a strong need for new and sustainable capital and capacity-building sources for CDFIs.

With ongoing support from mission-driven investors, CDFIs can and will continue to chip away at the credit needs and related disparities facing our region’s most vulnerable residents and communities.

It has been 17 months since the tragic killing of George Floyd drew worldwide attention to issues of police brutality, systemic racism, and social injustice. How has that heightened awareness impacted police and community relationships at the local level?

Please join us as we bring together law enforcement and south metro neighborhood leaders for a meaningful conversation about the role that we can all play in building stronger, safer communities and fostering more inclusive and trusting environments. Through candid dialogue with Clayton Police Chief Kevin Roberts, this event will seek to create an environment where neighbors and police listen to one another, develop compassion, and find common ground.

Saturday, November 6, 2021, 10:30 am - 12:00 noon. Zoom event information will be sent to registrants close to the event date. Details and free registration here: https://www.andpi.org/nt2021
