Our Veterinary Technology Program recently organized a vaccine clinic day for Healing4Heroes, a non-profit dedicated to supporting military service members and veterans by pairing them with service dogs. These dogs, often rescued from local shelters, undergo training before being matched with military personnel or veterans.

During the event, students had the privilege of vaccinating and microchipping 12 dogs for this cause. This experience helped students understand the challenges faced by these individuals and how service dogs play a vital role in their lives. Some veterans shared their military experiences and the assistance their service dogs provide.

One of the featured dogs is Lou, the pit bull, who performs remarkable tasks: alerts when their human's blood glucose is abnormal, wakes their human during nightmares, and acts as a brace when their human has back issues.

"I first knew I wanted to get into Welding when I took an Automotive class in high school. That piqued my interest in Welding because, in my free time, I would take some time to practice welding. From then, I knew I wanted to advance my career in that field."

Carolina is a recent graduate of the Welding and Joining Technology Program. She discovered her passion for welding in high school and found Gwinnett Tech's Welding and Joining Technology program while researching programs in her area. While she admits that learning welding hasn't been easy, she always remembers the wise words of one of her instructors: "We are not looking for perfection; we are looking for progress each day."

Despite managing a full-time student life, Carolina started her career in welding as a Tig Welder and Fabricator. She aspires to eventually start her own small welding business and become a certified welding inspector.
