It is the spookiest time of the year and also time for one of our most popular (and favorite) tastings, the Halloween Candy Pairing! Australia is one of the most overlooked wine regions in the world. We have many theories about this, but Australia has a winemaking history that dates over 200 years. When the market exploded in the late 90’s / early 2000’s, this region became synonymous with heavy, extracted, hot weather Shiraz. But the wine production here is actually quite diverse. This weekend, we are focusing on wineries that are making waves with innovative winemaking.

VinoTeca welcomes Alicia Lini of Lini 910 for an evening of Lambrusco paired with Chef Justin White’s Italian small plates. Lini was founded in 1910 by Alicia’s great-great grandfather in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Lambrusco’s popularity has had it’s ups and downs throughout the years, but Lini has stayed the course with traditional wines. They even created a special wine using the Champagne method (which we will feature for dinner!)

The evening will feature 5 of the families’ wines paired with Chef Justin White’s small Italian-inspired fare. Justin is a friend and regular at VinoTeca has trained under some of the greatest chefs in the world, including Thomas Keller at the French Laundry. Chef White landed in Paris, where he attained two Michelin stars at Villa 9 Trois for his dynamic, seasonally-driven cuisine. His current life in Atlanta has him curated private events throughout the city.

This week, we celebrate one of the greatest songs ever - September by Earth, Wind and Fire. As an homage, we have decided to plan a tasting around the three elements from which the band takes its name. Each wine will be impacted by either earth, wind, or fire! “Do you remember, dancin’ in September? Never was a cloudy day!”

This week’s tasting: GRENACHE!

September 15th is International Grenache Day and it happens to be one of our favorite grapes. One of the world’s most widely planted vines, this truly versatile grape is known for its rich notes of red berries, cherries, and a hint of spice that Grenache is famous for. We are pouring Groundwork Grenache Blanc to start (we’ve waited months to serve this!) Second is shop favorite making a comeback with Garnacha straight from Rioja. And to finish, a stunner in Anne Pichon ‘Sauvage’ from Vaucluse, France. Don’t miss our homage to Grenache!

This tasting however celebrates those who chose a different path, but found a calling towards winemaking. Join us in welcoming Donna Morris, founder of from Willamette Valley, Oregon. This unique winery was founded in 2006 by Donna and her husband Bill Sweat when they relocated to Oregon after working around the world. They found a home among the vines and decided to change their lives in the pursuit of making great Oregon wine. The name Winderlea, comes from their first home in Vermont and is a word evoking the meaning “Wind in the Meadow.” Not only do they create beautiful, classic wines, the team is devoted to good farming and business practices and are certified in both Biodynamics with Demeter and corporate sustainability as a B Corp company.

This tasting will include 5 of Winderlea’s offerings including both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a few surprises. We will be serving charcuterie to pair. Tickets are $45 per person. 🎟️ link in bio

Old vines 🍷🌐

The term ‘Old Vines’ or ‘vieilles vignes’ is a labeling term that really has no clear definition. When vines are planted, it takes several years for them to mature into fruit production. But after about twenty to thirty years they reach peak production. We are featuring three wines that come from vines that are at least 40 (like some of us who work here!) Why are these ‘past their prime’ plants our focus? Despite producing less fruit, the grapes they give are more concentrated and flavorful, leading to wines that have beautiful intensity, softer tannins, and bright acidity. Come see what it’s like ‘over the hill!’

Set-up as a timed walk-around tasting, guests will travel through 5 categories of aromas to exercise and enhance your palate through the olfactory system. The sense of smell is arguably the most important component of tasting and this class is designed to emphasize how. The culmination of the class is a blind tasting that puts your new skills to the test. Prizes for the best smeller will be awarded.

Weekly Tastings: All American 🇺🇸

Every July 4th, we make it a priority to share some unique, American wine and this year we leaned in! Viticulture in America began in the Southwest with missionary grapes mainly for sacraments. In colonial times, Virginians tried and mostly failed at viticulture. California started producing mission wines as well, but it took an immigrant from Bordeaux to master the wine grapes we know in American production today. Prohibition put a damper on a lot of winemaking, but now America contributes 20% to the world wine supply. USA!!

VinoTeca is once again partnering with one of our favorite Iberian importers, , for a night of oysters and Albariño. This classic white grape is the perfect pairing for shellfish and a hot summer’s day. We have sourced three different varieties of Atlantic, cold water oysters served RAW with accompaniments.

Each ticket gets you 6 oysters and a tasting of 5 unique wines from both Portugal and Spain. will also be providing a grazing board to match.

Doors open for this drop in event at 5:30 with last shucking at 7:00.

Drink Chenin Day is June 20 and VinoTeca is HERE FOR IT! Chenin Blanc is one of our all time favorite grapes and we will take any opportunity to share it with the masses. Chenin is grown in many places, but it is most notably from - and originated in - the Loire Valley of France. It has also found a home in South Africa where is it sometimes referred to as Steen. Sommeliers loves this grape because of its versatillity, different styles and the fact that it pairs with all types of food. This weekend we celebrate this grape, but to appease the red drinkers, we invited a friend!

After nearly 9 years of tastings, there is not a lot that VinoTeca has done multiple times, but this one is a staff favorite. There are over 10,000 different grape varieties in the world and most you have never heard of. Our team tastes upwards of 50 wines a week and is always looking for the unknown. This weekend, we are pouring wines from grapes that we have just discovered and have fallen for. We also really love introducing people to new things!

🇪🇸🍷 Wines of Calalonia 🇪🇸🍷

Our tasting takes us this week to Catalonia, Spain. This state is home to the city of Barcelona and 9 viticultural regions. The Catalan people have a rich history of wine making that dates over 3000 years, and the diverse climate and geology brings out varied styles of wine. This week, we take a trip to 3 of those regions with a crisp white and two earthy reds.
