Simi Sugar Splash Retreat 2023

Check out these wonderful Cookie Place cards by Dillard Herman. She paid tribute to Nicholas by using the Log Slice mold to make the cookies decorated with Gumpaste leaves and Isomalt Pumpkins. Fabulous Job.

The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville North Carolina is host to the national gingerbread House competition. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the competition. This would have been chef Nicholas Lodge’s 20th year as head judge.

One of the main hallways at the Grove Park Inn features a large gingerbread wall featuring photographs of past winning entries as well as a rotating turntable showcasing last year‘s winning entry.

To honor Chef Nicholas, the Omni Grove Park Inn framed his 30th anniversary chefs jacket and it is hanging in the gingerbread hallway along with a short written tribute and photograph of Nicholas.

In the main hall lobby of the Grove Park Inn, each year for the last several holiday sessions the pastry dept has constructed a “real gingerbread” house where hot chocolate is served.

John Cook, Head pastry chef at GPI paid a tribute to Nicholas with green windows, NL green trim and by naming the two entrances “Sweet” and “Wishes” the two words Nicholas ended all texts and email correspondences with.

A great honor indeed.

Dear friends...

This weekend in the UK the largest cake show and convention, Cake International, is taking place.
Nicholas has been a demonstrator at CI for Katy Sue Designs for many, many years.
Saturday evening was the awards banquet. The banquet room was fully decorated in “Nicholas Lodge Green “ and most people in attendance wore something green as well.

Three years ago Nicholas received the prestigious “Cake Hero Award” which is voted on and goes to the person receiving the most votes.
This evening Nicholas became the first person ever to receive the Cake Hero Award for a second time.

Also tonight, CI presented a new award for the very first time. Nicholas is the first person to receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award. “

After both awards were announced, the room presented Nicholas with a most deserving standing ovation.

Please join me in listening to and enjoying hearing his giggles and laughter with having received these honors.

We can’t take everything with us…so all of Chef Nicholas’s cakes, gumpaste flowers, clothing and a signature “apple-green” Chefs Jacket will be available for purchase. Dear friends,
I and Nicholas's family thank everyone for the outpouring of love that has been demonstrated on social media for Nicholas. There are no words to express how overwhelmed we are by this demonstration of the love for Chef Nicholas Lodge.

There will be a "Celebration of Life" in the fall in a few weeks for our friend Nicholas. As soon as we have a location and date selected, we will let everyone know.

It is our hope and plan to be able to broadcast this celebration over social media so that anyone who wishes may be able to watch. Again, those details will be made available as soon as possible.
Of course, anyone who wishes to attend in person may do so.
Many have been asking, and the family and I are looking into which charity for donations can be made to, in memory and honor of Nicholas if anyone who wishes to do so.

Nicholas would have been so happy and pleased and "giggling to himself" to have been able to have witnessed the color change of Facebook to his signature Nicholas Lodge green color. Thank you so very much for your participation in the outpouring of love and support for me and our friend Nicholas.

We arrived in Sioux Falls , South Dakota late Tuesday night
Yesterday we came to Steven and jays Lake House to relax for a couple of days
Today a little Retail Therapy , Some time on the pontoon , Good friends and food

Yesterday we drove from Reno , Nevada to Rawlings , Wyoming it was a very long 12 hour drive on I80 through Utah
Sadly a bit cloudy but some lovely scenery along the way
We’re about to head off this morning to drive to Sioux Falls , South Dakota for a few days R and R
