Happy beautiful Autumn afternoon, Windjammer Family! Today I’m featuring some photographs and a short video from my favorite local trail: the Eliot Couse Nature Trail, at nearby Fort Macon State Park. This maritime forest trail is among the most scenic and breathtaking in the State of North Carolina and arguably, in the United States. It meanders through ancient green canopied live oak glades, climbs sea oak and cat tail covered sand dunes, and offers stunning views of the coastal North Carolina pristine Atlantic seascape. It allows for a hands on experience with local flora and fauna in abundance that, in my opinion, rivals the Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores. As you can see in this video, there were many heron and other exquisite ocean birds of prey to view this a.m. There is almost always something exciting to see there. The trail is a 3.5ish mile, self guided tour, that, like a museum, leads the hiker with placards identifying and explaining the plants and animals found on the trail. In my humble opinion, it’s an absolute “must do,” here in gorgeous Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. The beach is still flagged as a hazardous current day, so be careful and safe if you’re on the Atlantic Ocean, 🌊 today. We hope to see you and yours here, soon! The 411 with tropical storm Debby, Windjammer Family, is that we’re still under a tornado warning until 8 p.m. this evening. It is blustery outside and sporadically raining. Please stay and travel safe- if you are traveling. We’re thrilled that this storm is dissipating and seems to be leaving minimal damages along the North Carolina coastline (comparatively speaking). Atlantic Beach and Pine Knoll Shores North Carolina (and the surrounding municipalities) have evaded evacuation mandates. Hopefully we’ll be back to August sunshine ☀️ and normal operations, soon. We hope you and yours are safe, and we hope to see you all soon!
