For the last few days the albie bite has been doing very well in the Beaufort Inlet and into the Morehead city turning. There have been plenty of bait and albies. Hopefully this is just a small taste of what it will be this fall. I just had a cancelation for prime albie date in October. October 14th, 15th and the 16th are now available. If you are interested give me a call at 252-240-2744 or on my cell at 252-241-6111.
Well we didn't get as much out of Tropical Storm Debbie that I though we were going to get. We are now hoping that will be our only brush with a hurricane this season. I am not going to hold my breath though. If they come I hope they come before Oct the 10th. That way it should not mess up our fall fishing season. Speaking of that we are starting to book up for our fall false albacore, king mackerel, red drum and amberjack fly fishing season. If you are interested in fly fishing for any of these fish please give us a call at 252-240-1427, or 252-240 2744. We are hoping for a very good fall albie season especially. You can also contact me at [email protected].
It's time to start thinking about booking your fly fishing or conventional fishing trip to Cape Lookout North Carolina. Some of the best sight fishing for false albacore anywhere on the east coast. Along with catches of Spanish mackerel, king mackerel and even old red drum . October and November dates are booking up. Give Capt. Joe Shute a call at 252-240-2744 or Cape Lookout Fly Shop at 252-240-1427 to book your trip now.
Fished with Capt Hunter Bolton on a Guides morning off since our party had a business emergency and had to cancel. Plenty of bait balls and feeding Albies on the west beach. They are tan and white flies like they are supposed to . Water temperatures are dropping and fishing should be getting better later this month.
Last of three fishing days with Terry Zeiders. We had plenty of albies all three days. This last day the Albies would take the fly better than the two previous days. Terry hooked 7 or 8 and landed 4 Albies on fly. Spin anglers wer having numbers in the double digits. Only going to get better from here.
Okay guys the Albies have showed up in large numbers just outside the Beaufort Inlet as well as in the Morehead City Turning basin and shipping channel. It's time to go out and catch a few. I have open dates left the last of September, October as well as a few dates in November. Time to catch your-self a few!

late September is the time when I start to target king mackerel on fly. King mackerel start to school up better in late September through mid November. We target these larger king using 10 weight fly rods and 500 grain sinking lines and a large pink and chartreuse fly. by catch while fishing for kings can be large Spanish mackerel, albacore and amberjacks. If you would like to target kings on fly give me a call at 252-240-2744.
It's getting about that time again. If you would like come down to the Cape Lookout area and catch Albies they should be showing up around the middle of September and hanging around thru December. I still have good dates available in October and November. Just give me a call at 252-240 2744 if you would like to catch some of these hard pulling speedsters.
Albin Terry with a Spanish Mackerel caught on 7 wt
Fly rod. Had plans for a offshore fly trip but the wind had different plans for us. Always something to catch on fly. Saltwater fly fishing! Give it a try. If interested give me a call at 252-240-2744 and we will arrange a trip for you. All fly tackle provided if you don't have your own.
Had a good Father's Day offshore fly trip with Mark Hey and his son Kyle. Plenty of jacks at all stops but they weren't very fly friendly today. Mark caught one 15 lb or so jack and Kyle broke off a larger jack in the wreck. On the way home we checkout some buoys and caught this 22 lb cobia on fly. Both jacks and cobia ate a 9" black eel fly. 252-240-2744. Have dates available for fly and conventional fishing. Tackle is provided.
Had a good morning fly fishing with Tony Perno. Plenty of Spanish Mackerel on Fly and this Atlantic Bonito at the reef on a jig. Fly fishing for Spanish is excellent right now.
OK guys. After all these days of extreme high winds, it looks like after this Thursday of 15-25 knot winds that we are going to have 5-10 knot winds both from the N-NE and SE through next Tuesday. don't hold your breath, but this is the best wind forecast that I have seen in a while. I just hope that it comes true. Might just have to hop out on the water Monday to see how clean the ocean is and if I can wrangle up something that wants to bite a fly! Fishing report hopefully to follow !
The fishing around the Morehead City , Atlantic Beach area has slowed up just a little the last few days. We have had weather that has been going from warm back to cold with strong NE winds. This has cooled the water surface temperatures off some and slowed up the fishing. We are still catching bluefish, Spanish Mackerel and Atlantic Bonito. There have been good numbers of old drum up around the Cape Lookout Shoals. Hopefully they will stick around for a few more weeks. The cobia fishing should be picking any day now. Usually the cobia bite starts the first week of May.
Just an update. We have changed our hours of operation. Tuesday thru Saturday our new ours will be 10:00 AM till 5:00 PM, and will continue to be closed on Sunday and Monday.
Should be good times and learning for all!
Thanks to Sarah Gardner of Fly Girl Charters for the video.
Excellent Albie fishing today. Plenty of bait balls with pelicans sitting on top of them with Albies underneath!
