She plays an invaluable role in building relationships with our little patients, teaching them how to keep their smile healthy and bright! 😊

This sweet 12 day-old newborn was referred to us by his Pediatrician to assess for a tongue-tie.

According to mom, the main symptoms are:
- constant gasping for air when nursing and bottle feeding
- shallow latch
- frustrated / unlatches a few seconds into nursing
- falls asleep easily during nursing

Upon clinical assessment, the tongue-tie is a grade 4, located near the tip of the tongue. This is preventing the newborn's tongue from lifting up to nurse/ swallow properly.

After a few sessions with the Lactation consultant, Dr. Karrie performed a Tongue-tie release procedure (Lingual Frenectomy) with a CO2 laser. Immediately after, mom noticed an improvement in nursing and baby was able to latch/ nurse for 5 minutes instead of a few seconds!
