DTE and several helper crews are currently staged in the west parking lot of Orchard Ridge while working to clean up and restore power caused by severe storms across Oakland County.

Amidst moving around the country, working as a firefighter and caring for her four children, Monica rediscovered her passion for surgical technology. With the help of the Michigan Reconnect program, family support, and a ton of hard work, she completed her program and landed her dream job. Meet Olivia Peleg, who went from playing the trombone, to studying engineering, to finally discovering her passion in an OCC welding course. With two associate's degrees under her belt, she's now headed to Wayne State University to continue studying welding and metallurgical engineering technology.

Meet Etrelya 🎨

After returning to school 20 years later, she finished her degree and graduated from OCC with an Associate in Arts in Interior Design and now works her dream job at Beaver Tile as a Showroom Interior Designer. OCC graduate Kalen Rogers spent time in Italy over the summer as one of only 12 individuals from across the country – and the only community college student – selected for a prestigious Broadway intensive.

Next up for Kalen: appearing in the World Premiere of GEARHEADS at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre, and beginning his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Oakland University!

👋 Meet Kelly and Kim! They share a remarkable journey—from returning to school later in life to utilizing the Michigan Reconnect Scholarship. Both have faced challenges head-on to pursue their dreams of earning a college degree.

🎓 Kelly Thalmann, once a high school dropout, used Michigan Reconnect funds to earn her degree from OCC. Now part of our Admissions team, Kelly is also pursuing her master's in higher education at Oakland University. Kelly reflects, "Taking the first step in the classroom was daunting, but it opened doors to endless possibilities."

🎓 Kim, a 2023 OCC graduate, credits her two adult children for inspiring her to return to school. Graduating Magna Cum Laude, Kim encourages others, "It's never too late to start again. I did, and so can you."

HUGE congrats to Michael Fenech from our Oakland Community College Athletics Men's Golf team for finishing first in the NJCAA Region XII Golf Championship and for representing OCC in the National Championship! ⛳️
