Nine years ago today, a little coffee shop on Gay Street opened its door for the first time. We gained our coffee knowledge two months prior, rolled our first batch of cinnamon rolls as an experiment the day before, and took a leap of faith that maybe people would show up. Our first location was something special - clamored with mismatched furniture from the 70’s, an 8-track and record player console, the ugliest mugs you could find, and a severe lack of central heat and air.
We never anticipated to become a staple to so many people’s Auburn experience. Our heart in opening The Bean was to create a welcoming space for people throughout our community. We’ve had a front row seat to all of the mundane moments like study dates, business meetings, interviews, to the highlight reels of graduation breakfasts, first dates, Bible studies, and all the laughter and tears shared.
It is no small feat to run a small business these days - in addition to having to move locations, face a global pandemic, and changes within the third wave coffee world. We could not still be serving everyone today if it wasn’t for every single one of you. Every latte, cinnamon roll, avocado toast, and tea pot full of tea has played a roll in continuously making The Bean all that it is. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, your love, and allowing us to serve you! Here’s to the past 9 and all that is to come in the next 9☕️
