The Farmers Marketplace

It's ok to be a little fish in a big pond. You gotta start somewhere, working with what you've got.

What we've got is an amazing network of 65+ local farmers producing clean, healthy food using organic, permaculture and other regenerative practices. This makes us unique as we are the only food hub in our region that does not handle any conventionally farmed products that are typically grown using chemical and synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

So, we ramped up our Wholesale Market this summer, working with local school districts and in November, we will be starting our contract with the Farms Together program as the aggregating vendor for Feeding The Foothills (formerly Placer Food Bank).

These beautiful tomatoes are from Durst Organic Growers out of Esparto, west of Sacramento. They were all hand loaded and unloaded, so about 1400 pounds in today's workout. Looking forward to getting the funding we need to scale up into a commercial refrigerated box truck with a liftgate, pallet jack and walk-in cold storage!

Looking forward to getting the OG Cafe & Coffee Bar at The Farmers Marketplace open so I can invite you all in for an afternoon latte!

This one is called The Rose, featuring Valiant Coffee Roasters' Slingshot Espresso Blend, Raw Farm's Whole Milk and a drizzle of Organic Rose Petal Syrup. Then we have the Sourdough Pita Bread from Warren and Co. lightly toasted and topped with Organic Cream Cheese from Sierra Nevada Cheese Co. and Heirloom Tomatoes from Snowline Farm.

Love it when two of our local farmers are delivering their harvests and they get to meet. There is so much revere and support amongst our local farming and artisan food producing community as they persevere through the challenges of the economy, extreme weather and life in general. Brendan from Foggy Dew Fungi just dropped off some beautiful mushrooms and Craig from Snowline Farm just dropped more heirloom tomatoes. All produced using organic practices!

Super stoked to have Bob and Carrie Curlee of Crest Point Farms delivering their new product line of Sweet Italian, Andouille and Polish Sausage Links and Smoked Bacon and Ham Hocks, all free of any added nitrates and nitrites. They raise Kune Kune pigs and Irish Dexter cattle on certifed organic pastures at their regenerative ranch in Grass Valley. Bob is passionate about animal welfare and restoring native grasses to our region!

Back in stock from one of our favorite hyper-local farms! Foothill Roots Salad Mix is one of our customers' favorites but the hot summer took its toll so we are happy dancin' over here to celebrate the new harvest.

Table Meadow Farm, in their 4th year of production, is finding their groove in the things that thrive in their little micro climate and the soil food web they are building using permaculture practices including cardboard and wood chip layers.

These gorgeous Green Beans and New Zealand Summer Spinach, going out in the Gold Country Food Hub's Healthy Groceries Program orders, are in their prime. Thank you for all of your dedication and hard work farmers!

Today is the unveiling of the larger-than-life mural at Recreation Park in Auburn that was commissioned by the Leadership Auburn Class of 2022 that I am honored to be a graduate of.

We are excited to share and celebrate the completion of our community project that was funded with $30k in donations from local sponsors, businesses and our community.

A New Chapter For The Farmers Marketplace

I want you all to know how much I appreciate all of the ways you have supported this business and the passion-driven work of The Farmers Marketplace. It is with a little sadness and a lot of excitement that I am announcing the closure of our online farmers market.

As a small-scale food hub, privately funded by me personally, for just over five years, I have had to take a close look at what areas of this business are viable and which ones are not. Although our initial business model of an online farmers market quickly expanded in March 2020 as we provided an essential service for food access through the pandemic, things have shifted and our community has so much amazing access to locally produced food through farmers markets, onsite farm stands, CSAs, food co-ops and small grocery stores sourcing local that there is no longer a demand for an online farmers market.

As the tides shift, I continue to trust that there is nothing other than something amazing to come as we continue to operate as a locally sourced, community grocery store and food hub, supporting our local food producers, supplying clean, healthy food to our community and developing capacity and resiliency in our local food system.
