What is Yoshukai Karate?
Yoshukai Karate can trace its lineage back to the founding fathers of karate in Okinawa over three hundred years ago. The Japanese Grandmaster, Katsuo Yamamoto, began his formal training in the Chito-Ryu style under Dr. Chitose. In 1959, he opened his own school in Kitakyushu, Japan. From 1960 to 1963, Yamamoto was considered the top competitor in Japan. In 1963 Dr. Chitose pronounced him the Grandmaster of the Yoshukai style of karate.

We attended a tournament in Destin this weekend. There were some good competitors and good lessons! Jonathan earned a 3rd place in traditional forms for his rank and age group! Congratulations Jonathan! He wants to compete here again next year!

We had a great testing yesterday for kids classes! Well done everyone who tested!

Today seven members of Auburn Karate traveled to Dothan for the annual Dothan Open Karate Tournament. For five of those karateka this was their first tournament. We returned with a grand total of twelve trophies! Everyone had a great time and hopefully has gained some self-confidence and learned a little about areas to focus for some improvement! They all worked so hard in preparation for this event! I could not be more proud of their accomplishment! Congratulations!!!

I cannot repeat this to my students enough!

We want to extend congratulations to Blaise Koda of US Yoshukai for 1st place wins in weapons and open hand kata for black belt men at the August 19th Albertville Open martial arts tournament! He is bringing his energy and expertise to our Auburn dojo while he attends Auburn University! Osu!!

On August 19th, Jonathan once again faced down opponents and tested his skill as a karate practiiner as he attended the open tournament in Albertville. He had a great time and returned with a 2nd place medal (weapons) and two 3rd place medals (open hand and sparring). Congratulations for another great performance!

Auburn Karate competed today in West Point, MS at Battle of the South Martial Arts Tournament. World Yoshukai Karate Dothan also was there! Jonathan from our dojo took home first place in weapons, third in open hand kata after a surprise tie breaker kata, and fourth in sparring. Great show by all and thank you West Point Karate School for hosting. Osu!

Congratulations!!

On September 10th, we traveled to Panama City Beach for the annual Sunshine Classic open karate tournament! Our team had a great time! The tournament began with the award of 1st degree black belts to Jake and Micah, and a 4th degree black belt to Natalie Stephens! Congratulations to them for their hard work!

Johnathan competed in his first tournament and took home 3rd place in weapons in his division. Micah completed as a black belt for the time and took home 3rd place in weapons in his division. Natalie also competed as a black belt, taking home 3rd place in weapons. The completion was definitely tough! Congratulations to them all! Back them up for the upcoming Dothan tournament on November 5th when they will all compete again!

We planned on following the tournament with a nice beach day together, but Mother Nature had other other plans as she rained the entire time. But the time together as a team, as a karate family, is always great! We are thankful for the attendance, the competitors, and the hard work for months prior to the tournament!

We had 3 Auburn Dojo karateka testing at World yoshukai karate Kabuto organization Winter camp. They all did very well! Mr Micah and Mr Jake tested for Shodan or first degree black belt. Ms Natalie tested for Shihan dai, fourth degree.
