As predicted, we have many extensions this year. We are working hard today to reach out to as many clients as possible to confirm the extensions. We will be closing our office this Wednesday (4/19) and Thursday (4/20) to give our staff a much needed break, but we will be back Friday (4/21).

If we filed an extension for you, we will contact you when everything is completed.

03/31/2023

Hi all! As we inch closer to the April 18th deadline, we wanted to give a quick update. Obviously, we have been moving much slower trying to operate with one less person. We have been working as fast as we can, but for obvious reasons, it is not as quick as previous years. At this point, anyone that has not dropped off their tax documents yet is guaranteed to get an extension. We will be reaching out to clients throughout next week to notify you if we will be filing an extension or not. Thank you for your understanding.

02/25/2023

We've been quiet on here because we have been VERY busy. We want to thank you all for being so kind and understanding and all the well wishes during this time. Ed is doing really well, and we're feeling very hopeful that he will be back in the office part-time before the end of tax season! 🥳

A quick note on our Saturday hours: Starting Saturday March 4th, we will be changing our Saturday hours to 9 am until 2 pm. We're trying to give ourselves a little grace during this time, and it gives us a few more hours to buckle down and get your taxes worked on.

Again, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all the understanding and kindness you have showed our office, Ed, and the family. We have some of the best clients around!

A note from Shannon:

Hi All,

I wanted to touch base with everyone about this tax season. As you all know, this is a family business, and with that, family always has to come first. Yesterday morning, my dad, Ed, had a heart attack. He is okay, but he is in the hospital and waiting to have surgery. We aren't sure when he will be back in commission, so as of right now, not only are we down one person for now, we are obviously dealing with the emotional toll of this. We had planned on doing appointments this year, but with this, it just isn't possible. We are going to ask everyone to proceed as we did last year with just dropping off your tax documents. We will be making calls tomorrow to cancel appointments that had already been scheduled.

We will get through this, but we hope everyone will understand if getting through everything takes longer this year or if some folks need extensions when they normally do not.

I know that many of our clients have been coming to us since much longer than I have been with the company, and I know many of you love Ed too. I wanted to be honest with everyone about what is happening. Because this just happened, we are still trying to get our bearings and figure out some small logistics, but I will try to keep everyone as up to date as possible.

Thank you in advance for the understanding and love at this time.

Hi all! We're looking forward to seeing you all starting in a few weeks. We have a few notes on the 2022 Tax Season:

1. We are not taking on new individual tax clients at this time. We want to make sure we can give the best service we can to our current client base.

2. We will be offering limited appointments again this year. We will only offer appointments Mondays through Thursdays 4:30 PM until 6 PM and Saturdays between 9:30 am until 3:30 pm. That means that not everyone that wants appointments will get them, but we can make time for telephone appointments throughout the day as well to answer any questions you may have. You can still always drop your documents off at our office, and we can finish the return and call you when it's ready, as well.

3. Unfortunately, we have decided to raise our fees. Our overall expenses have increased quite a bit over the last year, mainly paper, which has almost doubled.

As of right now, the official electronic filing start date is January 23rd. We will keep you posted if that date changes. We look forward to seeing you all over the next several months!

04/11/2022

2020 Unemployment Compensation Exclusion FAQs — Topic G: Receiving a Refund, Letter, or Notice | Internal Revenue Service 07/14/2021

The IRS has started sending CP14 Notices to taxpayers who filed their tax returns prior to the unemployment income exclusion, but only paid the amount due shown after the exclusion was applied. The CP14 Notices are requesting payment of the remaining tax that would have been due prior to the exclusion. The IRS is still in the process of re-calculating and adjusting any refunds or balances due on these returns. Taxpayers do not need to pay the remaining balance of the tax they would have owed prior to the exclusion, and amended returns should not be filed for these taxpayers. When the IRS re-calculates these returns, the taxpayer will receive another mailed notice, usually within 30 days of when the correction is made. For more information, see the IRS FAQ for 2020 Unemployment Compensation Exclusion Topic G:

IRS is holding over 29 million tax returns, delaying refunds for many poorer Americans 04/23/2021

We have had many phone calls about clients not receiving refunds. Unfortunately, it seems that it is what we suspected; the IRS did not have to time to prepare for many of the tax law changes that affected the 2020 tax year, so a lot of people's refunds ended up getting stuck in a "review" que. At this time, there isn't much we can do other than wait until you receive a notice from the IRS explaining the delay. If you receive a letter, please notify us, and we will see if there is anything we can do to speed up the process.

IRS is holding over 29 million tax returns, delaying refunds for many poorer Americans The Internal Revenue Service is holding 29 million returns for manual processing — delaying refunds for many — because of pandemic-related law changes, processing errors, and fraud detection.

Wow! What a crazy tax season we have had. We just wanted to share a couple of updates with you!

1. In the latest stimulus package, there is legislation in there to allow anyone who received unemployment for 2020 to reduce their taxable unemployment income by up to $10,200 per person within certain income thresholds. We are still waiting on the IRS to issue their ruling and our software company to update our program. As soon as those two things happen, we will be able to complete the returns that contain unemployment, and we will be reaching out to anyone who needs to have their return amended.

2. The IRS began sending out the initial $1400 stimulus payments this week. We do not have any information about who they are sending those payments out to first or anything other than what is out in the media. We are trying to keep up with it, but we might not have all of the answers for you at this time.

3. If you sent your documents through the phone app and have not done so already, please email Shannon at [email protected] to give her your assigned tax code from the app.

Thank you!

Not great timing! Our phone lines are down and might not be back until tomorrow. In the mean time, you can reach Ed at [email protected] or Shannon at [email protected].
