Kalb to run 410 Winged Sprint in 2021! David Kalb Jr is excited to announce plans to run a winged 410 sprint dirt car in 2021!

Most of us in the North are done racing for the season. Important to take the time to properly store your engine.

Pretty much all gasoline has ethanol in it. Ethanol is corrosive and attracts water. Left in your carburetor over a period of time it will form zinc and aluminum oxide as it reacts with the materials around it. Aged fuel will also ‘varnish’ on carburetor parts over time. If you leave fuel in the bowl good chance your jets will be clogged when you go to run again in the spring.

With couple simple steps you can properly prep for off season storage:

- Remove the fuel line feed at the pump, open up your bottom bowl drain, and let gravity remove all the fuel into an approved fuel gas container. Retighten your drain screw and take some WD-40 and spray it into your fuel line. Use enough so that it drains into your carburetor and coats internal parts for protection.

- Drain your oil and put fresh Briggs 4T oil in your crankcase. Most ‘karting’ oils attract water and leaving them in your engine over a winter will cause rust and acid etching. Acid formation is a by-product of combustion that gets past the rings combining with water attracted by PAG based ‘karting’ oils. Briggs 4T has a high TBN (ability to neutralize engine combustion by-products) along with a premium rust inhibitor.

Also, the off season is a good time to freshen up your engine. There a number of things you can do:

- Rebuild carb with a carb kit.
- Replace engine gaskets.
- Clean carbon off piston and cylinder head
- Refresh you valves. I will be posting additional

In addition to comparing your own laps it is extremely helpful to have the data from a front running kart. It will clearly show you where you are loosing time. We are happy to setup a time to share David Jr's data.

I put together a setup sheet for the COMPKART 4R that we used last weekend at the Cup Kart Grand National on Vega Red tires.

We had fastest time on Saturday with a 1.13.3 and clearly had a kart that could run with anyone. David Jr won the final heat. Unfortunately with the rain n Sunday I thought the track was different and modified the setup some. It didn't quite work out for us. We were still fast early on and able to come home with a 5th place starting 8th out of 81 karts.

Kart-Start team driver David Kalb Jr. competed at the Cup Kart Grand National in New Castle Indiana. Running against 80+ drivers in CKI Medium class, David came home with a 5th place finish. The COMPKART 4R had the speed to compete for the win, but issues in qualifying and missing the setup in the feature kept David from having a chance to stand on top of the podium. He did score an amazing Heat 3 win on Saturday, and 2nd fastest time 1.13.3 for the weekend races in heat 2. The COMPKART 4R showed it can run with any chassis.

We created this page to help kart racers. My son David Jr. And I raced karts for 13 years and had so many good experiences. We traveled all over the country running national races. We have also met many good people and raced with the top racers in the country. Karting is a great sport. One that many folks don’t know about. We are looking to give back and help, especially new racers. What I have found is that karting is way harder than it looks and people struggle to get the information they need.

We encourage you to post any questions you might have here. It can be LO206, 2-cycle, or shifter. We have run them all at one time. It can be a basic question for new karters or more advanced ones from the more experienced.

I will also post content on this page as an education tool. And I have also created http://kart-start.com website. It has lots of helpful information. Especially for LO206 racers.
