Urban Art Taking Downtown Aurora By Storm Between August and December, 30 new murals popped up in west suburban Aurora. Morning insider Marissa Parra spoke to the artists behind the paintings.

It’s really cool to see how Nido Art Studio space has transformed into the Aurora Yoga Center’s treatment space for acupuncture and chiropractic medicine.

Here’s a fun 4th of July craft for your weekend.

All you will need is some white fabric (or an old sheet cut up), red and blue acrylic paint.
❤️🤍💙
Place scrap paper underneath the fabric and use masking tape to pull the fabric taut and smooth.
Using a paint brush to paint red stripes and a paint brush to paint hands blue before printing hands.

Come up with your own red, white, and blue flag design.
Air dry. Finished pieces can be made into a pillow, flag, table runner, or sign. Optional, see final photo, addition of embroidery.

Dark, deep blue is my favorite background color. It’s my go to when doing watercolor painting. I’m not sure how else this tree mural is going to change, but it is definitely going to be different!

Lynette’s Barcelona Dream

During the Fall of 2020, an artist friend of mine, Heather Gentile Collins, invited me to join a project with other Chicago area artists. She came up with a marvelous idea, to create pieces of artwork to give to the Make a Wish children who had trips canceled do to Covid-19. These artworks inspired by the travel wish could bring hope to the Make a Wish children and their families. They can look at the artwork and feel hopeful about a future trip.

I have permission from my Make a Wish child’s mother to share with you the true name of this piece, “Lynette’s Barcelona Dream” Lynette’s mom, Lydia also shared photos with me of Lynette’s excitement upon receiving the painting in the mail and would like me to share them.

It has been such a positive experience for all of us involved. I will continue to make paintings for more children who are waiting on their wishes. I have made giclée prints at a fine art printing studio in Elmhurst, IL called Osio-Brown Studios, they do wonderful, high quality work. They have printed for me two sizes of archival, giclée prints on heavy duty watercolor paper. These prints are a limited edition of 150.

I’m excited to share this Barcelona Dream painting today! I created it this Fall. My friend got me involved with a very special project she created with .

Over 300 children with critical illnesses had their travel-related wishes with postponed due to the global health crisis. To help remind them that their wish is coming, I created a piece of artwork for one of the wish children to hang on their wall! Wishes help to provide wish children and families hope and joy, and these children especially need that right now. If you are also interested in celebrating these wishes, feel free to reach out to me, and I can help get you started!

I am so grateful that asked me to be one of the artists. I loved getting back into my painting. I briefly visited Barcelona myself as a high school student. I was in awe of Antoni Gaudí’s architecture & it was fun to look at pictures of these magical creations for inspiration. I love making drippy sandcastles whenever I visit a beach & I can’t help but think of those sandcastles when I look at the church of the Sagrada Família.

I have been lucky enough to communicate with my Make a Wish child & mother. It has been a wonderful experience for everyone involved in this project.
