Fitzsimons Gateway Affordable Housing Community
More affordable housing is on the way! Earlier this week, Mayor Coffman and city staff joined community partners at the groundbreaking of the Fitzsimons Gateway Affordable Housing Community—a 210-unit project for families and individuals earning 30% to 70% of the area's median income. Located at Colfax Avenue and Peoria Street, this exciting project is expected to be completed by late 2026. We’re proud to support it through our Community Investment Financing Program, helping bring more affordable housing options to Aurora. Watch Aurora TV’s coverage of the groundbreaking event below.

Aurora Mini-Con, presented by Comcast, is this Saturday, Sept. 21 and will have activities for all ages and fandoms🎮💫🎬 This free festival will feature gaming tournaments by Aurora eSports as well as trivia and costume contests with prizes. Escape puzzles, Super storytime, SuperSHEro magic show and a comic writing workshop will also be available for everyone to enjoy. Are you looking to participate in a unique volunteer project that will leave a lasting impact on future generations? Then, join the Prairie Restoration Project at the Plains Conservation Center to restore relationships between people and nature. Volunteers will have a chance to embrace the great outdoors and get their hands dirty by doing tasks like removing non-native invasive plant species, planting native prairie plants, monitoring wildlife and collecting data as part of a research experiment. No experience is required, but all volunteers must be 12 or older. Shifts take place in the mornings every Thursday and one Saturday and Sunday per month. Our 4th of July Spectacular is in full swing!

The city of Aurora invites your business to participate in Global Flavors, a unique food contest supporting local businesses, conducted in partnership with the city’s signature event, Global Fest! 🌎 Nominate a globally inspired dish, drink or dessert from your menu by Monday, July 15. From late July to mid-August, the public will have the opportunity to visit participating businesses, purchase and taste the items and vote for their favorites. The winners will be announced at Global Fest, the city’s most popular multicultural event, taking place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, on the Great Lawn of the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E.
