Thermometer in the dojo said "98 Degrees F.," going to melt.
These are the fraction of the dojo that said, they want to be on the ASKF - Shotokan Karate Dojo Competition Team!
Local tournaments remain our priority, but traveling is what love, too.
They want advanced competition training and they invite the pressure.
As they say in our neighborhood, "Pressure Makes Diamonds!"
We'll see you this season in competition, OSS!
31st Annual Sacramento Karate of Champions! We came with three athletes in intermediate/advanced divisions and I have NO problem saying...we got NO medals! But, we got an education so we will be better tomorrow that we were today. Something I say all the time, and saw it written at Sensei Limcaco's dojo.
You need to train harder, you need to come to class with a better mind, you need to quit treating you training a "fun." You need to change your mantality, and it will become More fun, but not until you change your thinking and how you train.
Don't get me wrong, I am so proud of my students. Some got hit HARD and got right up and waived of a medic. My green belt stepped and beat a MUCH higher level, and all deserve my respect.
I must say, this tournament is no joke and it teaches so much.
My students' favorite part was the training at the IKF dojo the next day at Sensei John Limcaco dojo where they were very well received. They loved ever second of it and want to come back.
I highly recommend this very well organized tournament and we will be back.
I took some notes for running my tournament as well.

Such a wonderful experience with Olympic Athlete Sensei Sakura Kokumai. Thank you Sakura Kokumai for sharing your knowledge and thank you Colorado Budokan for hosting the special event.
Here is our new team picture! This is still not everyone that will be competing this year, but these are the ones are making a commitment to harder training for the love of karate competition. (Not everyone is in this picture)
For some it's their first year for competition, others continue into more advanced levels. We are ready for the new local and national events.
Our own tournament will take place October 26, 2024 in Aurora, Colorado. More details on that coming soon.
Practice Tournament! Some, their first time, others, brushing up for team try-outs and the local tournament season to start this Fall.
Back from the AAU Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida!
Here are some pictures. 9 athletes - 8 gold medals - 3 silver medals - 4 bronze medals.
We are proud of everyone.
For those of you who don't know, the man in some photos with the American flag shirt is Sensei James Howard (Jim), one of my father's students, and my fist karate instructor. He drove down from Orlando to see my students and spend some time.
Whoowh, I can't say that was an easy fundraiser. We collected 42 bags of more than 24 worn pair of shoes (over 1000 pairs of shoes) for donations for Funds2.org.
The funds will go to some of our athletes going to the AAU National Championships in July.
I mentioned there was a mix up with the kumite match so they had to put Daniel Araia (age 13, red side with the purple belt) in with older kids. This was his answer to that.
After for fights, he ended up with silver. This was also a day after he took silver in the Jr. International Cup.
In Karate, accept every challenge, you will grow much faster.
Everyone that competed in the Jr. International Cup and/or U.S. got medals. 1st, 2nd, and 3th place medals.
Here are a few photos from the two tournaments, food, fun, and kumite seminars.
More photos coming soon
We are ready Las Vegas!
Two separate Kumite Seminars on Thursday
Jr. International Cup on Friday.
Ozawa Cup on Saturday!
Dojo closed April 5th - April 9th (Wednesday - Sunday).
For all the upcoming athletes we see doing great things and winning all these medals, there remains new blood.
These kids have the same dreams and desires, and they are starting in the exact same place.
New students become an essential part of any dojo if it will remain strong. Their part of the dojo is as important as any.
