The word is out: Gold Rush Vinyl is doubling our vinyl pressing capacity! While we’ve been preparing for this milestone and installing new presses, we’ve also been quietly building up two new businesses: making 24-karat gold records and designing home decor products in our new Creative Studio. We can’t wait to help even more artists and fans connect thru vinyl. Read all about it in this week.

Wouldn’t be a trip to Nashville without a visit to . The amount of fun, imagination and quality vinyl in that store is ridiculous. Our team was happy to load up on some goodies to bring back to Austin.
What are some of your favorite record stores?
For this week, we’re asking our team: What’s the last thing you picked up from an indie record store?
Next up is one of our newest production team members, Kaitlin, with this splatter disc from Gulch!
“I recently moved to Austin from the Midwest at the beginning of the year, and it’s been exhilarating to be in a city so rich with accessible music. Coming from Iowa, I have a deep appreciation and connection to my roots growing up in the Midwest emo/DIY scene. For kids who came from small towns with only a Casey’s and a stop sign, a trip out of town to a record store felt like a day pass to heaven - a place where you could feel connected to a part of yourself and a community that you had to work a little bit harder to find.
“The last record I bought is Impenetrable Cerebral Fortress by the band Gulch from The Record Collector () in Iowa City, Iowa. If you’re ever wandering through the many corn fields and Casey’s of the Midwest, I recommend stopping at Homer’s () in Omaha, Mill’s Record Company () in Kansas City, or Reckless () in Chicago. Oh, and definitely grab a slice of breakfast pizza from one of those Casey’s (). Trust me.”
For this wk, we’re asking our team: What’s the last thing you picked up from an indie record store?
We love this selection by one of our wonderful production team members, Shawneki:
‘Live Vibes EP’ recorded live at in 2017 and found at the renowned Domino Sound Record Shack in NOLA.
Who else has this in their collection? 🙌
For this wk, we’re asking our team: What’s the last thing you picked up from an indie record store?
Here’s a fresh selection from one of our wonderful press operators, Robbie:
“After taking my leisurely cruise through BLK Vinyl () I grabbed this copy of Willie Nelson and Roger Miller's collaboration album ‘Old Friends.’
“When I'm looking to discover something new, or head deeper down a musical rabbit hole, I put my full faith in BLK Vinyl.
“This gem of a shop located on east 6th is well worth visiting regularly. It's as if the best ‘used’ bin you've ever thumbed through took hold of an entire store. The owners have done their homework and will almost always have something insightful to say about a record you're considering. Treat yourself to something new to you! Been a long time since cutting my vinyl teeth in Gainesville, FL at Hear Again () and Wayward Council (), but Austin is a truly incredible home for musical discoveries and BLK Vinyl is a great contributor.”
For this week, we’re asking our team: What’s the last thing you picked up from an indie record store?
Here’s a throwback from our founder Caren:
“I picked up this 78 when I was with family in Charleston, South Carolina. It’s a split 10-inch by The Homestead Trio and Walter Van Brunt and Helen Carter. helped me find that it was released in 1918. It is about as thick as four modern LPs and weighs a whopping 418 grams.
“It was a gift from Bruce at , who saw me digging thru the bottom-shelf crates and offered me a chair. We struck up a great conversation about the industry and I told him about my two refurbished record players — a Victrola from 1920 and a Philco from 1948. He kindly pulled this old 78 for me to use on them.
“Whenever I travel I love going to records stores. No matter what language you speak or country you’re in, there is something universally familiar about vinyl. Even in a strange place, you know you’re amongst friends.”
For this week, we’re asking our team: What’s the last thing you picked up from an indie record store?
Here’s a great selection from one of our amazing press operators, Diane:
“I picked up ‘Onion’ by Shannon and the Clams () from End of An Ear (). Onion isn't their newest album, but it is the album I was introduced to from my friend Andy.
“End of an Ear has always had an incredible selection (not only just with records, their book section is one of my favorites), their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, and they host a lot of in store performances by great artists. I always look forward to their weekly emails, I'm not capable of leaving End of an Ear with just 1 record. Minneapolis, MN has Electric Fetus (), Portland, OR has Music Millennium (), Austin, TX has End of an Ear.“
Who's going to see Shannon and the Clams at Hot Luck Festival () at The Mohawk ()?! 🙌
To celebrate this week, we’re asking our team: What the last thing you picked up from an indie record store?
First up, production manager, Chris. “I picked up a repress of the Rollins Band debut LP ‘Life Time’ from .
“Going to Waterloo is dangerous for me, they have such a wide selection of records, it's hard not to leave with 10+ records. My last visit was light and I only left with 3. Their sales/used selections are always great, too. LA has Ameoba, NY has Rough Trade and Austin has Waterloo. They also celebrated their 40th birthday last month — happy birthday Waterloo!”
