What do you know about the Lunar New Year? This holiday, celebrated by over 20 percent of the global population is most commonly celebrated in East Asia, and by those of East Asian descent. For myself though, I have always appreciated celebrating what feels like a more logical new year (based on an actual new cycle in the moon, rather than an arbitrary date on the calendar). Plus, I love the food!

This Tuesday, February 1st, will be the beginning of the Year of the Water Tiger... a year of abundance so long as we are able to lean in to the flow.

2021 was a huge year of growth, hustling, and hard work! I finished my Institute for Functional Medicine coursework in February, started my business Connection Wellness in March, finished my Doctoral degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in July, and have also been working my tail off between 3 jobs.

I look forward to a year of improved balance, mindful health, and increased connection.

So excited that my beautiful passionflower vines, which barely made it through the nibbling of my goats, and the severe February freeze are finally flowering!

We planted them last summer, after finding a whole bunch of pups in a shady spot along the side of the road. These vines have been deepening their roots, drawing in what nourishes them, and surviving (sometimes just barely) over this past year. They are a beautiful testament to resilience, and a reminder that we can survive multiple setbacks and traumas and grow into beauty.

Sometimes, we just need a little support.

On this Memorial Day, I would like to acknowledge and memorialize not only those who lost their lives in service of this country, but all those who came back changed by what they had seen. PTSD has shaped generations of this country's veterans. That's hundreds of thousands of men and women traumatized, and sadly, sometimes passing that trauma and their coping mechanisms along.

People often ask if I get acupuncture too, and the answer is a resounding yes!!

I always feel better when I'm getting acupuncture on a regular basis, and am lucky to be able to trade for sessions with two dear friends. 💕

And this session yesterday morning with was made even better with the guest appearance of Tiko the dog, an pilates and reiki pup. 😍🐶

Advice on how to advocate for yourself.

Although I greatly respect Western medical doctors, they work within a system that often makes it hard for them to do their best work. The insurance industry generally does not pay for certain tests unless a whole gambit of other standard tests have been run first, and shown conclusive evidence that further testing is warranted. Sometimes this is not in the best interests of the patient.

Learning how and when to advocate for yourself is something that I hope to teach my patients. 💕

As we wait with bated breath and heavy hearts. Nothing can right the wrongs that have been done, but still, I have hope.
