BTAT Members should delete emails from BTAT President Brad Wallace asking that you purchase gift cards for “Veterans Hospice Palliative Care units for preventive items from Corona Disease ( COVID 19)”. Neither Brad or BTAT is requesting that this donation be made and is clearly a scam.

Let’s face it: When it comes to running a marine dealership, Texas dealers are like no other. They deliver the boating lifestyle to their customers with a swagger all their own.

That’s why the Boating Trades Association of Texas offers an educational event like no other. The BTAT 2015 Annual Convention, which will take place Oct. 19 in Austin, provides a top notch line-up of speakers and topics specifically designed to tackle the issues that matter most in Texas. Here’s a sample:

State of the Industry
To make the best possible decisions for your business, you need insight into the trends driving today’s market. In this session, you’ll learn how the industry is changing and what it means for you.

How to Transition to the New Trailer Law
This year, the Texas Two Steps, One Sticker program took affect. During this session, we will hear from a representative of the Texas Department of Public Safety regarding the administration of the new law.

How to Attract Buyers and Look Good Doing It
It’s no surprise that the Internet has changed how boat buyers shop. This presentation will focus on what expectations consumers have for the online buying process and examine what your dealership can do to meet their needs.

BONUS:Join together with your fellow dealers for a night of great food, drink and conversation as part of the BTAT Special Networking Dinner, Oct. 18 from 6 to 9 pm.

BTAT Members, enter your special promo code during checkout to receive a $50 conference discount. Don’t know it? Contact Michael T. Marks at [email protected] or 512-238-8013.

TEXAS BOAT DEALERS TO PRESENT SEN. JOHN CARONA AND REP. DAN FLYNN 2013 LONE STAR AWARD FOR LEGISLATIVE EXCELLENCE

The Boating Trades Association of Texas (BTAT) and Boating Trades Association of Metropolitan Houston (BTAMH) will present the 2013 Lone Star Awards for Legislative Excellence to State Senator John Carona (R-Dallas) and State Representative Dan Flynn (R-Van) for their legislative efforts on behalf of Texas recreational boating during the 83nd Legislative Session.

Rep. Flynn and Sen. Carona have long championed the enhancement of outdoor recreation and public enjoyment of Texas’ vast natural resources. This session they were particularly effective in the sponsorship and passage of legislation modernizing the sale and financing of recreational boats. The legislation improves business transparency, customer convenience, and consumer protection. The awards will be presented on December 11 at the BTAMH’s annual banquet in Houston.

“We are extremely grateful for the leadership and vision of Representative Flynn and Senator Carona, and their steadfast commitment to enhancing outdoor recreation in Texas. Their efforts this session enable Texas dealers to continue improving transactional services in the sale of recreational boats, which in turn facilitates access to our state’s abundant lakes and waters.” said Ken Lovell, BTAMH President. “We also appreciate Governor Perry, Lt. Governor Dewhurst, and Speaker Straus for their foresight on this issue and their efforts to keep Texas a great place for small businesses to prosper and grow.”

BTAT and BTAMH are self-governing organizations representing more than 500 Texas boat dealers and marine industry businesses which employ thousands of men and women across the state and are dedicated to maintaining a positive recreational boating environment for all Texans. More than 600,000 Texans own recreational boats and use the state’s vibrant network of lakes, rivers, and coastal waters. Recreational boating is key to the enjoyment of our state’s abundant and beautiful natural resources, which make Texas a great place to live, work, and play.

Happy 4th of July, we hope you are enjoying your holiday with friends and family!

06/28/2013

The latest rumor circulating on the Internet has to do with a new tax on fishing equipment and references the IRS Publication 510. According to the American Sportfishing Association their research concludes that there is no new tax being applied to fishing equipment. Congress did impose new industry fees in the health care bill on industries standing to turn a profit as result of the health care bill, e.g., medical device manufacturers as well as on the insurance industry. However, nothing was done to change the tax treatment associated with excise taxes on sporting equipment, including fishing gear. So when you see the Cabela's cash register receipt postings it is either a hoax or something else, but not a new fishing equipment excise tax.
