Savitribai Phule, the badass trailblazer, shook things up in India with her introduction of feminism. Back in 1847, she became India's first female teacher, igniting a revolution in women's and girls' education.

But hold up, her path to teaching wasn't your typical fairytale. At a tender age of nine, Phule found herself bound in wedlock as a child bride to Jyotirao Phule. However, her thirst for knowledge impressed her hubby, who taught her how to read and write. He even backed her up when she decided to pursue teacher training.

In 1948, this unstoppable duo founded a school exclusively for girls. And guess what? They didn't stop there. They went on to create more schools for girls and women from all walks of life in neighboring villages. And that's not all – Phule also established a sanctuary for widows that eventually transformed into a safe haven for destitute women, widows, and even those forgotten child brides, abandoned by their own families.

Her unwavering commitment to social reform and ensuring education for all women and girls has earned her the title of the mother of feminism in India. Savitribai Phule, the true pioneer who fearlessly defied societal norms and blazed a trail for generations to come.

Keishia Thorpe is smashing through barriers to education!

Check it—a boss 12th-grade English teacher from Maryland, Keishia is all about giving low-income, first-gen American, immigrant, and refugee students a legit shot at college.

She didn't stop at tweaking her English curriculum to match her diverse students. She straight-up revamped that ish to make it more relatable. And guess what? Her students went from meh to crushing it—they started reading more and acing their grades. Boom.

But Keishia didn't stop there. She saw financial barriers and said, "Nah, not on my watch." In a single year, she helped her senior students win over $6.7 million in scholarships to 11 different colleges. And get this—almost all of 'em went tuition-free. Mind blown.

Born in Jamaica, Keishia came to the US for a track and field scholarship. Way to make moves, girl! Now, she's helping at-risk students from all over the globe through her non-profit scholarship program, US Elite International Track and Field Inc.

Oh, and did we mention she won the Global Teacher Award in 2021? Yeah, she's THAT good.

🌍✨ Amazing story alert! Let me introduce you to Jane Elliott, a third-grade teacher with a brilliant approach to teaching diversity. 😮👏

Back in 1968, right after the tragic assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., Jane decided to help her all-white class understand the impact of racial discrimination. She ran an incredible two-day experiment that you won't believe! 🎯

Jane segregated her students based on eye color, claiming that the brown-eyed kids were smarter. The results were mind-blowing! Not only did the "superior" brown-eyed children act differently, but they also performed better in tests. 😱📚

On day two, Jane switched the groups, and the same effect occurred. Can you believe it? 🙌

This experiment caused controversy at the time, but it has now gained worldwide recognition and is credited with pioneering the field of diversity training. 🌎✊

Gina Chavez is an award-winning musician who co-founded Ninas Arriba with her wife, Jodi Granado, after the couple did mission work there in 2009-2010.

Jodi Beth Granado
Jodi Granado is a high school teacher and basketball coach in Austin, Texas. She co-founded Ninas Arriba after she and her wife, Gina Chavez, did mission work in Soyapango, El Salvador.

In 2009, Gina Chavez and Jodi Granado left their comfortable lives in Central Texas for an adventurous journey in Central America. They lived in El Salvador, amidst volcanoes and poverty, to teach teenage girls in a gang-dominated barrio for eight months. They faced challenges, cherished moments, and received lots of hugs.

Their mission continued even after they returned to the US in the summer of 2010. Gina and Jodi established Niñas Arriba, a college fund that offers full scholarships to the girls they lived with in Soyapango. These girls also receive a 6-month paid internship upon graduation from a private Catholic university.

"Niñas Arriba is a campaign to change the world, one girl at a time."
