Rambling Rose Ranch

One of the added perks of having an event at RRR is the ability for your guests to experience a hint of ranch living. Our onsite animals, which includes 2 horses, 1 donkey, 2 mini donkeys, 2 goats, a mini pig, a rabbit, ducks and chickens, love when people come to say hi. They also love when people bring carrots and apples for them.

I just had a conversation yesterday with an Aunt of an upcoming bride. She said I would pull that w**d and I said I don’t. I explained why. Then I saw this so I wanted to share for education. This is exactly why I allow dandelions and other “w**ds” their time in the gardens. We have been trained to believe things are w**ds for many reasons I won’t go into. Ultimately when the gardens are filled with birds, bees and butterflies I know my natural style is exactly what is needed for this now moment in the gardens and the environment.

A lot of people call me a w**d but I'm a friend and come to help you!
My flowers are the first food for insects after hibernation and unlike most other plants, I have pollen AND nectar, not merely one OR the other! And I am generous with them! 🤪😉
When you see me, remember that I'm the ONLY one who wants and can grow in that particular spot. Because:
Either the soil is too compact / hard / stomped and I want to loosen it for you with my roots.
Or there is too little calcium in the soil - don't worry, I will replenish that for you with the dying of my leaves.
Or the soil is too acidic. But I will also improve that for you if you give me the chance.
Or a mixture of the above reasons, of course. 😊
I'm here because your soil needs my help so best you let me grow without disturbing me! When everything is fixed, I will disappear again, I promise!
Are you trying to remove me prematurely with my root? However meticulous you are, I will return 2x as strong! Just until your soil is improved.
You can even tell by my growth at which stage my help is at. If my leaves are flat on the ground then I'm far from ready but if they all reach up then I'm already a long way on my way.
Something completely different is that I am 1 of the first bloomers in spring so I will announce spring / summer for you.
During the day when it's hot, I open my flowers but in the evening when it cools off I close them again quickly. In fact, if it's not hot enough during the day I won't open them at all!
My flowers are even delicious for you people by the way, did you know? I used to be called ′′honey (or gold) of the poor′′ because my flowers are so sweet in e.g. jam, sauce or salad! The internet is full of recipes - check them out.
But wait until the end of May or later before you start picking and even then, don't pick everything yet! The biodiversity and bees will be very grateful!”

This past week I had to say I Love You for the last time to my animal soul mate, Sisu. I was there when he was born 13 years ago 6/5. He was the runt and was struggling to breathe. He spent the next few hours against my chest as I kept him warm and helped him regulate his breathing. From that moment on we were connected. He had a way of looking at me that gave me such comfort & peace. He did everything with me here. He was my right hand guy and my heart is 💔. Everywhere I go I’m reminded he’s no longer here to make me smile & laugh. To love me through the ups and downs.

So if you have reached out please know I am doing the best I can right now to get back to you. I’m in full on grief and it is a moment to moment roller coaster of emotions. Thank you for understanding!!

The past few days at RRR have been very somber. On Thursday we had to make the hard decision to let go of Belle. No matter how much you know it is the right decision, your heart breaks when you no longer have the clicking of their toenails, the stinky breath kisses or their unconditional love when you hold them.

Almost 8 years ago, Sandy saw a post from her cousin about a female dog who was at a rescue in Dallas. This dog had been found tied to a dumpster all matted, flea covered and wearing a dirty pink tutu. Sandy was instantly in love and so we made plans to meet her cousin in Waco and adopt her. She came with the name Rianna but between Waco & Austin her name became Belle. She sat on my lap for the drive. She had been shaved so looked a little silly but she was so sweet. Scared and unsure but sweet.

It took us several years to earn her trust. We have no idea what she went through but we couldn't even raise our voice in excitement without her getting upset. She would go after our feet if they got to close to her. She would bite at times as a knee jerk reaction. But slowly she realized she was loved and safe and then she started to blossom.

We didn't know her age when we got her. Just a rough guess. In 2020-21, she was diagnosed with heart failure and so we got her on meds. Then a collapsing trachea. Over the last few months we started to notice some dementia type symptoms. All rolled together on top of the vet saying "she thinks about every breath now"... the devastating decision for the hearts of the humans that loved her had to be made. We had to show her how much we loved her by allowing her to go peacefully after eating her favorite snack, Frosted Mini Wheats, in our home thanks to Laps of Love. My heart still aches and the tears flow as I type this up but I know she is happy and free from the struggles she had here. I am grateful she chose us to love and be loved by.

Sarah & Brandon created a weekend event for their guest to give them a true Austin feel. Their reception at RRR was described as if SXSW collided with a wedding. 💖 We absolutely adore our couples who express themselves so uniquely. Life is too short to be anything but yourself.

In June, I had the idea to create a mural on the back side of the cottage (aka bridal suite) courtyard. I had never done anything like that before but I felt lead to create. So I decided to get out of my head and allow it to flow from the heart. It took a couple of weeks as I added on and edited and PLAYED with what wanted to be birthed.

Now when I am watering pots in the courtyard I peek around and it makes me smile and reminds me to BE LOVE (the only thing I was lead to write).

When you are so excited a new HEB is just around the corner, what do you do? You go opening day and take a selfie with the cool looking clouds. 😂 It's silly I know but it's been almost 40 years since I (Morgan) have lived that close to a grocery store. I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

And now if any clients need something last minute, Nutty Brown is now open and literally under 5 minutes away. 👏👏👏

We are so excited to share & support our friend and fellow event vendor, Christy, with on her newest creation, It is perfect for rehearsal dinners and is just 3 minutes from RRR. It is a win-win. It's Sunday and here is a reminder to start the week.

It's so easy to get wrapped up into what another person thinks about:

what you do or don't do
who you are or who you are not
who you love or who you don't love

We tend to forget that their views do not have to be our views unless we choose to adopt that view.

If you want a tarot reader at your wedding but "everyone" says it is woowoo, you get to choose.

If you are in love and want to get married but "everyone" says you can't do that, you get to choose.

If you want to wear a hot pink wedding gown but "everyone" says don't do it, you get to choose.

Ultimately YOU are the only one who will be with you forever. Know yourself. Heal yourself. Love yourself. Then when someone says you can't xyz OR you are xyz, you lovingly get to choose to believe it and follow it or not.
