(Post 3/4) Competition has played a large role in every employee, friend and colleague of Cycle Progression’s cycling journey, and it is a goal of the entire shop to share our collective love for cycling with anyone and everyone. The experiences gained and expertise learned through competition have provided our shop with a unique position of being able to precisely articulate what may lead to the most enjoyable ride for a myriad of riding circumstances, whether you’re looking to go as fast as possible or searching for a fun and stress-free adventure .

Supporting the local racing scene is an important value to everyone involved with Cycle Progression, and we have supported a large swath of teams, racers and race promoters who have been able to represent our shop on a local, national and international level. Cycle Progression was an instrumental supporter of:
->the iconic City Park Showdown series (let’s bring it back?)
->the early days of the Team Trail Party Enduro series
->several editions of the Pace Bend Road Race
->many years of the TMBRA Spring and Fall series of XC MTB Racing
We are proud to have supported the productions who have helped push the Texas cycling scene to the level it is at today.

With cycling being such a gear reliant sport, and the world of MTB evolving so much in the timeline of Cycle Progression, we have chosen to work with brands on the forefront of technology and innovation who are helping drive change in the cycling industry. It was a goal of Alex’s to bring the “pro” desire to search for the best to anyone and everyone, and through much trial and error on our own accord, we have ridden, raced and searched for the bikes, components and gear that offer the best ride possible for any condition in any circumstance. We want people to enjoy riding, enjoy racing and enjoy every second on a bicycle and through all of our collective experience we can help convey the gear that will help our friends, patrons and customers get the most out of every second of pedaling!

(Post 2/4) Cycle Progression started life in late 2007, with founder and owner Alex Arumi searching for the right location to open up shop, and the first days of business in a brick-and-mortar storefront happening in January 2008. Alex’s original focus for Cycle Progression would be on the bustling MTB community in Austin, but the shop quickly grew into servicing any facet of cycling we could possibly help with.

Business originated for Cycle Progression on South Lamar, butted right up to the Barton Creek Greenbelt, which served as a testing ground for the full-suspension MTB’s that have been a part of our line up from day 1. The proximity to immediately rideable trail was a major selling point for the South Lamar locations, and helped solidify Alex’s original vision of Cycle Progression being the go-to MTB shop in the Austin area.

After the first and second Cycle Progression store locations on South Lamar, business moved up to Hyde Park in 2014; a slightly small geographic change, but one that yielded a closer proximity to a larger percentage of the Austin trail networks, despite being a bit further away from immediately rideable trail.

In conjunction with a wider variety of trail networks to choose from, the move to Hyde Park helped Alex focus on Cycle Progression’s second, yet simultaneous, vision of supporting the cycling community through athletes, teams, race productions and race promoters. We are infinitely proud to have supported a large swath of athletes and race productions throughout Austin and the entire state of Texas, and we want to see the entire scene grow so that more people can experience the journey of cycling that everyone at Cycle Progression has had and is having!

Over the next few days, we will have a few posts that try to capture as much of our shop’s history, the athlete support, the race support, all of the MTB persuasion and Austin cycling influence that Cycle Progression is proud to stand behind. We might miss one or two things, as there is quite a bit of our shop’s story to go through!
